One of the biggest benefits of working with a Virtual Assistant?

Having someone you can call when things suddenly land on your desk with no warning.

Yesterday, one of my GP Practice clients was pulled into a last-minute urgent meeting that hadn’t been planned in advance. With just 2 hours to spare, she needed a 20-page slide deck putting together whilst already managing the pressures of running a busy surgery.

Later that day, she sent me this message:

“It has been an additional source of stress on my day back so I appreciate your help and I’m also sorry to any stress for you on the last minute nature.”

This is where a VA becomes more than admin support.

Sometimes clients don’t need help because they’re disorganised. They need help because business moves fast, priorities change and unexpected things happen.

Being able to hand something over quickly to someone you trust saves time, reduces pressure and helps people focus on what actually needs their attention.

I nearly didn’t write this blog.

But after a recent business enquiry completely wasted my time, I felt it needed saying.

As Virtual Assistants, we’re still business owners.

Our time, experience, preparation and professionalism matter too.

I’m always happy to jump on discovery calls and explore how I can help someone’s business grow. That’s part of the job. But there’s a growing trend of people treating VAs like free advice sessions with no real intention of moving forward.

PA or VA? People still get the two mixed up all the time.

A PA is usually employed by one business or person. They often work set hours, are part of the internal team, and are there day-to-day supporting the business from within.

A VA works differently.

We’re self-employed, flexible, and brought in to support where businesses need it most. That might be admin, social media, customer communication, diary management, marketing support, or helping bring a bit of order to the chaos.

For many small businesses, hiring a full-time employee simply isn’t needed yet.

What they do need is:
• Extra hours back in their week
• Someone reliable to keep things moving
• Support without the overheads of employment
• Flexibility during busy periods
