On the 28th Feb and 1st March the NDOR track in Nottinghamshire held the final round of the very popular and well attended Nitro X Cross series. For this meeting with the help of our friend Lee Broadhurst we prepared a new Hong Nor X5B car for regular Vintage 1/10th racer Mitch Fiddling. Mitch has never previously raced at NDOR, never previously raced 1/8th and never previously raced Nitro ! We would face an uphill battle for sure but were also positive about the Hong Nor X5B and Mitch’s undoubted skills..
On the Saturday after we ran several practise runs and chipped away at the set up to fine tune it for wet and slippery Astro turf and we were as ready as we could be with the time scale we had !
Sunday was race day and Mitch was placed in heat 1 of Nitro, in round 1 Mitch was 9th, rounds 2 and 3 were scrappy runs (11th and 16th respectively) but then in round 4 we made some changes to the brakes, brake bias, diffs and clutch set up and this unlocked the pace! The X5B ran and was driven beautifully.. Mitch would go P3 in round 4 just 2 seconds off of TQ.
The final was very competitive and after many battles Mitch finished P5, 2 seconds off of 3rd place and just 12 seconds off of P1.. Congrats to our friend Ian Melish ! The Hong Nor X5B proved to be a competitive machine out of the box..
