From 1 July 2026, employees who have been fired can claim unfair dismissal after just 6 months of employment.

If you're still hiring on gut feel, winging probation periods or relying on managers to "just handle it", this change might catch you out.

Great to attend the Brighton & Hove Business Show yesterday at the Amex Stadium in Brighton.

Such a great atmosphere throughout the day. It was really nice to catch up with so many people we hadn’t seen since the days of online networking and meeting lots of new connections 🤝

We had a brilliant time on the Lodge Court stand predicting visitors' HR fortune, which definitely sparked some great conversations and a few laughs too! 😄

We're looking forward to reconnecting with everyone we met and continuing the conversations! 🫶🏼

Yesterday we started the day at V2 Radio! 🎤

Ian had a chat with Tanya McCarthy during the brunch hour about everything Lodge Court, from how we support our clients with our retainer packages through to answering various HR questions around AI and retention.

Then it was straight into Battle of the Businesses with Neale Bateman. We’re up against Oxmarket Contemporary Art Gallery this week, with both teams scoring 8/10 on Monday's quiz! 🎉

Chichester Netwalking with Lodge Court certainly gave us one last taste of the elements before summer on Tuesday! 😂

Despite the weather, it was fantastic to get out along the canal. We didn’t get wet, but we did get some steps in and enjoyed great conversation along the way. One of the things I enjoy most about these mornings is that, even when you think you know people well, you still come away having learned something new about them.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us. It was lovely to see you all and start the day together. 🫶🏼

A few weeks ago Lodge Court hosted HR Voices, which brought together an incredible group of professionals spanning HR, employment law, neurodiversity, coaching, and workplace wellbeing for a genuinely open and honest conversation.

Across the evening, we explored some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities shaping today’s workplace, including the critical need for continued investment in management training, the importance of consistent 1:1s, and how structure and accountability underpin high-performing teams.

We also discussed the introduction of the Fair Work Agency and what this could mean for employers and employees alike.

What stood out most was the quality of the discussions in the room; they were open and honest and gave a real insight into the challenges we all face in our day-to-day roles.

Thank you to everyone who came along last night.

Congratulations to all of this year’s finalists for the Chichester & Bognor Business Awards 2026.

Lodge Court is proud to be the Award Sponsor for Employer of the Year. This category is especially close to us, as it celebrates organisations that genuinely go the extra mile for their people, creating supportive workplaces, investing in their teams, and building cultures where people can thrive.

It was a particularly tough category for the judging panel, with so many outstanding entries and inspiring examples of strong leadership, care, and commitment to employees.

A BIG good luck from us to the five finalists in the Employer of the Year category. It’s fantastic to see them recognised for the way they put their teams at the heart of everything they do.

Winners across all categories will be announced at the Chichester Chamber of Commerce and Industry awards evening on Friday, 12th June 2026, at The Avisford Park Hotel.

A week ago today, the Lodge Court team were exhibiting at the Portsmouth Business Expo and we decided to do something a little different, our stand was HR Tarot-themed 🔮

Visitors picked a card, and each one revealed an HR insight along with a practical, tangible tip they could take away and use in their business straight away.

It was a great conversation starter, but more importantly, it led to some really honest discussions about the realities businesses are facing right now. From managing performance and absence to building culture and supporting growth, there was a real appetite to talk openly about people challenges.

We came away with some fantastic new connections to follow up, but also a reminder of something we already know:

When you make HR accessible, relevant and grounded in real-world advice, people engage with it.
