Need to escape the heat with the kids this week? ☀️🥵

I’ve rounded up a few of our fave indoor AIR CONDITIONED play spaces near Godalming for those of you looking for somewhere cool to hide for a couple of hours that isn’t the frozen aisle in Sainsbury’s! (Although that is 100% a legitimate outing choice this week!)

So check out the list, SAVE it for next time to temperature dials up again, and SHARE with any other local parents who may need some inspo too!

Where else would you add to the list???

I think this might be one of my favourite stages.
Your baby most definitely is NOT a sleepy newborn anymore.
But they’re also not a toddler either!

(Although sometimes very much seem to think they are 🙈)

They’re becoming their own little person.
Suddenly they want to touch everything, investigate everything and often crawl towards absolutely everything in sight.
(Usually the things they’re not supposed to 🤣)

One minute they’re sitting happily watching the world go by. The next they’re VERY determined to get involved in it.

And that’s exactly why we created Sensory Song & Rhyme Time.

A class packed with music, movement, sensory experiences and opportunities to explore, but without any expectation that your little one joins in a certain way.
Whether they are already on the move or not.

Because babies learn best when they’re given the freedom to be curious in their own way.

Whether they’re watching, wriggling, crawling, cruising or taking those first wobbly steps, they’re welcome exactly as they are.

And so are all the grown ups! Mums, dads, Nannie’s, childminders, grandparents - we get all sorts in this class and EVERYONE is welcome.

If you’ve got a little one aged roughly 6-18 months who is becoming increasingly fascinated by the world around them, I’d love for you to experience the magic this term.

You can book for the full term, or weekly with our Pay As You Go passes.
Just hit the link in the bio or drop me a DM.
Any questions are always welcome, I love a chat.

In a few weeks’ time I’ll have been a parent for ten years.

TEN.

I’m not quite sure how that happened.

It feels like yesterday that I was heavily pregnant, reading all the books, buying all the things and desperately trying to prepare myself for becoming someone’s ‘mum’ and meeting this tiny human I’d spent nine months growing.

And yet somehow there’s now a child in my house who is almost ten and becoming a proper little person outrageously quickly.
It’s a very strange feeling.

Part of me feels like I’ve been doing this forever.
Part of me feels like he was only born yesterday.
And I cannot for the life of me work out how I’ve been doing this parenting gig for ten years but somehow I’m STILL making it up as I go along!

This month has definitely got me feeling a little reflective.
Not so much in a “where has the time gone?” sort of way.
More in a “how on earth did we get here already?” sort of way.

So you might find me leaning into that a little over the next few weeks.
You might end up being my unofficial therapy sessions 🤣

Because if there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s that NOBODY really has their s**t together, however old their kids are.
Nobody has all the answers.

And even after all this time, it seems that bit doesn’t really change from when they were a tiny newborn.
I’m very much still winging it. 🙈

And perhaps ten years in, that’s the biggest lesson of all.

If you’re parenting a newborn, a toddler, a teenager or anything in between, I’d love to know…

What’s one thing you would tell an expectant parent from your experience so far?

Realistic things helping cool my nervous system this week as a frazzled mum in a heatwave….

(When my first choice of a book, G&T by a pool & someone else looking after my kids isn’t an option 😜)

☀️ Moving my body, the reel said it all. It helps. Movement = medicine.

☀️ Getting out early. Find a shady spot & move your body. It all counts & helps shake the grumpiness out a bit.

☀️ Doing less housework! The world will continue turning if my floor stays sticky for a few days.

☀️ A decent fan that basically follows me around the house 😂 Sounds obvious but it’s been a GAME CHANGER.

☀️ 2 water bottles.
1 stays with me, 1 stays in the fridge.. & rotate. Dehydration is a massive nervous system dysregulator.

☀️ frequent Ice lollies.
I make yoghurt & fruit juice at home = less guilt about how many we have! 😅
Also brilliant for Toddlers who don’t like to drink.

☀️ Joining in with the water fights, paddling pool splashing & sprinkler chaos.
Sometimes it’s exactly the release I need too.

☀️ Getting up before the kids.
A few peaceful minutes in the garden before everyone wakes up hot & argumentative helps me regulate SO much better all day.
(If you have a baby, hand them to your partner 1st thing & step outside)

☀️ Use scent. I keep a pulse point roller in the kitchen drawer & can regularly be found hiding in the toilet sniffing my wrists for 60 seconds 🫠

☀️ Picnic teas. Because cooking is bad enough normally, never mind in a sauna.
Also the Slow cooker is not only for winter. Just saying! (Pulled pork baps are epic!)

☀️ Tepid baths or showers before bed.
GAME CHANGER.

☀️ More screen time when needed.
Zero judgement here.

☀️ Lowering expectations generally. Mine & the kids’. The heat makes us ALL more tired, overstimulated & grumpy.

☀️ Talking to myself like I would my best mate. I don’t always get it right & that’s ok too 🤍

What’s helping YOU cope with the heat?

This felt like the most accurate description my tired brain could come up with right now for life with a baby 😅☀️

Apparently today hit the hottest May temperature ever recorded in the UK at 35 degrees… just down the road in Kew Gardens.
Which is wild considering the previous record had stood for 104 years.

Well… until yesterday 🤣

So if your brain wasn’t emotionally or practically prepared for parenting babies and toddlers in a heatwave, I’d say that’s pretty understandable really.

Because looking after tiny humans when everyone is hot, sweaty, overstimulated and sleeping badly is no joke.

Anyway.
Sending a little prayer up to the bedtime gods tonight that everyone gets through bedtime with minimal drama and somehow gets a decent stretch of sleep 🤞🏻

If things are already feeling a bit harder than usual since the sun arrived… you’re really not imagining it 🫠☀️

Hot weather can make babies & toddlers:
more clingy,
more wakeful,
more unsettled,
more “absolutely furious about existing” 😅

And leave us parents feeling overstimulated, touched out and way more irritable than usual.

If routines have gone out the window and everybody feels a bit grumpy, sweaty and chaotic right now, that’s very normal 🤍

Try and lower the bar:
Slow things down where you can.
Focus on keeping everybody cool enough, not doing everything perfectly. Sack off the stuff that can wait till the temperature drops a bit.

And remember:
this heatwave will pass, and it’s TOTALLY ok if you aren’t loving every minute of it.

I’ll be sharing some tips and info over the coming days that will hopefully help.

Till then, join the kids in the paddling pool, have the ice lolly and get the coffee chilly in the fridge!

I’ve heard a rumour the sunshine is making a comeback from today ☀️ and it’s reminded me just how much I love our summer term classes!

This week marked the end of our current term, but I kick back off again from 10th June and bookings are now live on the website. Some classes are already sold out, but there are still spaces to be had!

There’s just something about summer classes that feels a bit special. Sunnier walks to class, iced coffees afterwards in the park, babies sprawled on picnic blankets & toddlers causing chaos in the playground… you can practically feel everyone starting to recharge again 🤣

I know it’s also a popular time for families to go away if you’re not tied to school holidays (lucky you 😜), but don’t forget I can carry forward one class credit if you’re away for a week or two.

Plus I also run family-friendly summer holiday sessions, so there’s no pressure to disappear until September unless you want to!

So whether you’re holding a teeny newborn, navigating the “I suddenly don’t have enough hands now they’re crawling” phase, or chasing a little one taking those wonderfully drunken early steps… I’d absolutely love to welcome you 🤍

🌈 Community & connection for you
🌈 Developmental & engaging activities for your little one
🌈 Lots of fun for you both

Any questions, drop me a DM — I always love a chat!

🦖🦕 We had such a great time in classes this week hunting for dinosaurs in amongst the jungle vines.

There were ice cream cone volcanoes and boulders galore in messy play (and it did get very messy!)

It’s definitely one of my favourite weeks to teach.
Which is your favourite theme?

Celebrating 9 years of my little biz this month 🥹

9 years ago I had a 9 month old baby, had just left my corporate job in the beauty industry, retrained as a baby class teacher… and was about to run my very first baby massage class!
To think back to that time is wild!

I really had absolutely no idea what I was doing. 🙈
No background in starting a business.
No marketing knowledge at all.
No grand plan.

Just a slightly anxious but excited mum (with an ADHD brain it turns out! ), a baby on her hip and a very strong feeling that I wanted life to look different.

I wanted to build something that meant I could be there for my son whenever he needed me, for as long as he needed me.
AND I wanted work that actually meant something to me too.
Something with purpose, that felt human, and made a difference in some small way.

After experiencing such a huge shift myself when becoming a mum, I wanted other parents to feel seen and supported in one of the biggest transitions of their lives.

9 years later and this business has changed shape now a few times! (thanks Covid 😅), but my “why” hasn’t changed at all.

I still want a life where my work fits around my family, not the other way around.
I still want to do work that I genuinely love and that has a positive impact on others

AND I still feel ridiculously grateful that somehow this little passion project turned into the community it has.

Thank you to every single person who has booked a class, recommended me to a friend, been an online cheerleader, or trusted me to be part of your families story during a time when so many of us feel really vulnerable.

I genuinely will never take that for granted 🤍
