Next week marks the start of the book launch of "Building a career in cyberpsychology". Prof Linda Kaye is looking forward to joining the lovely students at Bournemouth University in the "Psychology of Social Media and Videogames unit" for a session which navigates some of the prominent routes and domains of cyberpsychology, practical advice and case study examples.

The CyberDoctor® was founded in 2020 by Professor Linda K. Kaye as a research consultancy business providing cyberpsychology research and training services.

Professor Kaye's vision is strongly guided by her believe in the value of human-centred approaches when understanding our digital experiences. Drawing on principles from cyberpsychology, these offer a lens to understand the intersection been humans and technology, to help keep users at the heart of digital use and innovation. The CyberDoctor's mission is to apply cyberpsychology to help individuals and organisations understand how they can optimise their user-centred digital practices.

It's official.... there will be a second edition of "Issues and Debates in Cyberpsychology"! Contracts signed, sealed and delivered.

Some changes and additions that readers will see in Edition 2 include:
- More coverage of a number of topics including Cyberbullying, "online identity", online disinhibition, and problematic internet use which will be elaborated from Edition 1

- A new section on "Digital regulation" to situate critical debates about age and digital regulation, social media bans, smartphone regulation in schools, age of consent, AI regulation etc

- A new section on “Ethics and privacy” to elaborate further on what digital privacy looks like in contemporary digital society

- A new chapter on "Digital engagement and cognition" to situate debates around cognitive effects of engaging with online content, cognitive offloading, impact on critical thinking, AI and human thinking/human learning etc

- A new chapter on "Cyberpsychology in Society" to draw in discussion of wider, speculative effects of social media on politics, trust in institutions, societal polarisation etc

- And finally, new pedagogic features including; Chapter learning outcomes/objectives , scenarios and discussion questions to supplement the existing Thinking activity features.

Are emoji emotional?

We often use emoji to express emotion or tone in online communication but do we actually process them emotionally, the same way we do with facial emotions?

The CyberDoctor Director, Professor Linda Kaye and Team Emoji have been doing research over many years to study this phenomenon. They are finding that although we often use emotional labels to interpret emoji, we don't seem to actually process them emotionally on an unconscious level.

Meet The CyberDoctor Director, Professor Linda Kaye. She is a Professor of Cyberpsychology who has nearly 20 years experience as a psychology researcher and educator. As a consultant, she has worked with a range of clients to help them on their digital challenges.
