Last weekend I escaped to the wilderness with my son for a nature immersion weekend courtesy of Bowercampco.
They handled everything - camp set up, (unbelievably!) comfy beds, three delicious meals and all the snacks so I could simply show up and revel in quality time with my son amidst nature's embrace.
No screens, no devices, just pure mum-son connection.
This was the first time in a long a time that Jet and I had been away just the two of us. It’s usually his Dad, Henry Brydon who takes him on exciting camping trips so when I told him where we were off to his squeals of "oh my god mum we’ve never gone camping just us before, this is so exciting" hit me right in the feels.
The experience was transformative.
My son and I rediscovered a level of connection that has been a bit elusive amidst the hustle and bustle of family life lately. We hiked, laughed, explored and swam together in waterfalls. Just us.
Reflecting on this weekend I realised the profound importance of carving out regular 1-on-1 time not only with your family (that’s a given), but also with those in your team.
Just as I experienced a deepening of my relationship with my son, fostering meaningful connections within your team can also lead to great results.
These days it's easy to get caught up in emails, meetings and deadlines and think scheduling ‘quarterly catch ups’ is enough, but amidst the chaos we must remember the value of human connection and make these touch points more frequent.
Whether it's a casual progress catch up or a structured mentoring session, dedicating time to connect with your team on a personal level is important to foster trust, increase collaboration, and enhance productivity.
Creating moments of connection that inspire, uplift and empower one another can give rise to opportunities for growth and space for honest, more impactful conversations.
Invest your time in your people. And they will invest more of their time in you.
