Incoming client love ❤️

Success for me is helping others succeed, and business strategy sessions are one of my favourite offerings because in a short session (usually around 90 mins) I can really help founders map a defined path to get results.

In Marie Forleo's book ‘Everything Is Figureoutable’ she recounts how her mum once shared this pearl of wisdom:

"Nothing in life is that complicated. You can do whatever you set your mind to if you roll up your sleeves. Everything is figureoutable." 💡

I love this powerful statement as it really encapsulates the essence of building a business.

It's not about having all the answers, it's about having the determination and mindset to figure things out along the way.

Adopting a *just start, build lean & figure stuff out* mentality goes a long way. Embrace the challenges that come up as opportunities for growth and learning.

Don’t get bogged down by perceived complexities, focus on taking actionable steps to solve problems.

Find a sense of achievement in solving problems, and celebrate these as wins.

In essence, get started, roll up your sleeves, face challenges head-on, and let’s go! ✨

'Reflections' episode 4 is with Gemma Mills, Head of People and Purpose at Public Sector Network.

Gemma has an innate drive to want to help others. This has led her on a career journey through talent acquisition, the wellness industry and now sees her responsible for over 165 employees.

In our interview we talk about why B Corp certification was an important goal for her business and what’s next now they have been re-certified.

Plus Gemma gives some tips on short term goal setting - focussing in on what’s important right now. With the innovations and shifts we’ve seen in the business landscape over the last few years, long term 5 year goals can feel very disconnected from the now.

We also talk about metal wellbeing and how seeking out medical professionals that you connect and align with makes a huge difference in your treatment and recovery. Be selective.

Enjoy.

Gemma is not only a champion of the people in her business but also of the way they do business. Becoming B Corp is tough & 100% worth it.

Shelley Johnson from Boldside recently shared this great list of questions every leader should ask themselves.

The list is so good I didn't want to forget it, so I made an image of it!

Print it, stick it on your fridge, save it to your desktop, but make sure these are added to your monthly checkin with yourself. Your team will thank you for it.

1. What conversations have I been avoiding?
2. What behaviours do I need to recognise and reward?
3. What poor behaviours have I been tolerating that I need to address?
4. What wins do we need to celebrate?
5. What positive feedback do I need to share?
6. What's distracting us from our priorities?
7. What practical ways can I support my team?
8. What’s draining my energy?
9. What do I need to do to re-energise?
10. What support do I need?

Last weekend I escaped to the wilderness with my son for a nature immersion weekend courtesy of Bowercampco.

They handled everything - camp set up, (unbelievably!) comfy beds, three delicious meals and all the snacks so I could simply show up and revel in quality time with my son amidst nature's embrace.

No screens, no devices, just pure mum-son connection.

This was the first time in a long a time that Jet and I had been away just the two of us. It’s usually his Dad, Henry Brydon who takes him on exciting camping trips so when I told him where we were off to his squeals of "oh my god mum we’ve never gone camping just us before, this is so exciting" hit me right in the feels.

The experience was transformative.

My son and I rediscovered a level of connection that has been a bit elusive amidst the hustle and bustle of family life lately. We hiked, laughed, explored and swam together in waterfalls. Just us.

Reflecting on this weekend I realised the profound importance of carving out regular 1-on-1 time not only with your family (that’s a given), but also with those in your team.

Just as I experienced a deepening of my relationship with my son, fostering meaningful connections within your team can also lead to great results.

These days it's easy to get caught up in emails, meetings and deadlines and think scheduling ‘quarterly catch ups’ is enough, but amidst the chaos we must remember the value of human connection and make these touch points more frequent.

Whether it's a casual progress catch up or a structured mentoring session, dedicating time to connect with your team on a personal level is important to foster trust, increase collaboration, and enhance productivity.

Creating moments of connection that inspire, uplift and empower one another can give rise to opportunities for growth and space for honest, more impactful conversations.

Invest your time in your people. And they will invest more of their time in you.

"When everything is a priority, nothing is a priority." - Simon Fulleringer

Prioritisation is hard.

The tasks list grows and grows. There is just so much to do, all the time. Plus there’s the constant distraction of pinging messages, red notifications all over your phone screen, new emails. It’s never ending.

So how do we shut out the noise and focus on what’s important?

🥅 Get clear on your goals
I know I harp on about goal setting a lot, but it really is the most important thing to help you make decisions and prioritise your tasks effectively.
Clarity on your business’s core objectives will save you so much wasted time elsewhere because then prioritisation is easy, it’s almost intuitive.
‘Does X task help me achieve X goal?’ ‘What is the impact of this task?’
If it is high impact and helps you achieve a goal, then it’s high priority and you should go ahead and do it. If it doesn’t or you are not sure, don’t do it. It goes on the medium or low priority list.

🎨 Colour code your tasks
Every time you add a task to your schedule colour code it high priority, medium priority or low priority, in line with your goals. This is a really visual and non-negotiable way to build an impactful task list each day.

⛔ Turn off your notifications
Avoid disruptions. It sounds too simple, but you should control what can interrupt you from your current task. This is especially important for those who are easily distracted. And who’s not these days with our consistently dwindling attention spans!

☕ Take regular breaks in your work
Check your emails and check your phone every hour, at midday, what ever frequency works for you. Whilst you’re working on a task put your phone somewhere not in reach and close your email tab.

The key is to avoid being busy and instead maximise your productivity to achieve goals.

It's about doing the right things at the right time, not just doing things right.

How do you tackle prioritisation? What strategies have worked for you?

'Reflections' episode 3 brings insights from Joey Hurl Founder of Mana Kai and Joga Wellness

Back in 2016 Joey joined my team at The Dubs as Commercial Director, bringing with her a refreshing vibrancy. Fast forward to the present, and life has taken us both on journeys we could have hardly imagined back in our bustling Sydney office.

The funny thing is that we still live only a few kms away from each other, just up in Byron Bay, in Northern NSW 8 hours from Sydney.

Joey has embarked on a profoundly inspiring path, turning her talents and insights towards a mission that's as noble as it is necessary. Her work in breathwork and movement practices is not just a career, it's a calling—a testament to the transformative power of returning to one's core through mindful practices.

I was super excited to sit down with Joey not as an ex-colleague, but as a friend and fellow journeyer on the path of self-discovery to bring you insights on starting and running a business in the wellness space.

Starting a business based on transforming the lives of others is a great motivator to keep you moving forward when business gets tough.

Team culture is so important in businesses, especially new businesses.

Building a culture of growth & development from the get go will set you up for success long term.

Start by making sure you have these three actions dialled:

1. Ensure you have a defined company purpose and mission

2. Define communication channels and feedback loops early

3. Communicate goals, timelines and priorities clearly

Set your team up for the win.

For episode 2 of 'Reflections' I caught up with Rich Evans: Founder of Get Better Limited, an agency specialising in using to supercharge ecommerce brands email marketing results.

Rich and I met (well we've never actually met in person, remote work and all that...) through eCom Collab Club™ 🥞 London where he was sharing his journey in business.

His story was a heartfelt honest tale filled with ups and downs and learnings we can all take something from.

In this article he shares his thoughts on how to run a successful business.

What I particularly love is his focus on building the right team, with the right support structures in place to make sure they all succeed and smash goals.

Yesterday I sat down with a new client who was brimming with energy and armed with a fresh business idea, but swamped with the seemingly unsurmountable tasks required to even begin.

It was a reminder of the thrilling, albeit overwhelming, journey that starting a new business is.

The early stages of entrepreneurship are a maze of decisions and tasks, each seeming as crucial as the next.

In these moments, guiding someone through prioritising their actions and streamlining processes is sometimes the difference between getting going and the ‘too hard basket’.

Starting is the hardest part.

It's a moment filled with the most uncertainty but also unlimited potential.

Research in business and entrepreneurship consistently shows that taking that initial leap is the most significant barrier to success. Yet, once overcome, it lays the groundwork for everything that follows.

The key is not just to dream but to act. It's about moving from "I want" to "I will" and finally to "I am."

The journey won't easy, and will certainly be bumpy, but it's worth every step.

For anyone standing on the brink of their business venture, remember the magic starts the moment you begin.

Embrace the challenges, seek guidance, and prioritise effectively.
