Today marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of the iconic children’s book Winnie The Pooh by A. A Milne. Born in London in 1882, Milne began his literary career editing magazines Granta and Punch, later becoming a successful writer of plays, poems and novels. Inspired by his son’s nursery toys to create the characters, this milestone celebrates a century of Christopher Robin and his beloved friends in the Hundred Acre Wood

Circle of Marcus Gheeraerts (1561/2-1535). Portrait of Sir Henry St George (1581-1644), circa 1625, oil on canvas, three-quarter length portrait of a bearded gentleman dressed in a gilt-trimmed black doublet and hose, with a large lace ruff and lace-trimmed cuffs, his right hand in his pocket, and his left hand resting on a swept hilt rapier, upper right with coat of arms of the St. George family, with St. George modern and ancient in quarters 1 and 2, and the quarters of heraldic heiresses in the remaining quarters, relined and restretched, with some retouching, revarnished, 129 x 102 cm (50.75 x 40 ins), 19th century black and gold painted frame (142 x 115 cm)
