Autumn is here! 🍂 Is your sewage treatment system ready?

As the weather gets wetter and temperatures start to drop, it's worth making sure your sewage treatment plant or septic tank is in good working order.

Heavy rainfall and changing ground conditions can put additional pressure on drainage systems, particularly where surface water is entering the system.

A few things worth checking:

🍂 Keep drains and access covers clear. Fallen leaves and debris can cause blockages.

💧 Watch for signs of problems. Slow drainage, unusual smells or standing water could indicate an issue.

🔧 Stay on top of servicing. Regular maintenance helps identify worn components and potential faults before they become more serious.

🌧️ Check for unwanted rainwater entering your system. Excess water can affect treatment performance.

A great evening out with the team! ⛵

Last night, our directors, managers, seniors and supervisors swapped the office for the River Deben for a team building evening aboard the Jahan with Deben Cruises.

Setting off from Waldringfield, we enjoyed fish and chips, a few beers and a team quiz as we cruised down the river towards Felixstowe Ferry.

We finished the evening back at the boatyard just in time for a beautiful sunset.

A lovely opportunity to get everyone together outside of work, enjoy some downtime and have a bit of fun as a team.

Your treatment plant is full of living organisms. Are you accidentally killing them? 🦠

If you have a sewage treatment plant, the bacteria inside it play an important role in breaking down waste and keeping the treatment process working effectively.

That means what you put down your drains matters.

Strong chemicals, bleach in large quantities, fats and oils can disrupt the biological process. Wet wipes and sanitary products can also cause blockages and other problems within your system.

You don’t need to be afraid of using everyday household products. It’s simply about being mindful of what goes down the drain and avoiding anything that could overwhelm or interfere with the system.

A few small changes can help keep your treatment plant working as it should. 💧

When did you last have your septic tank emptied? 💧

It’s one of those jobs that can easily slip down the list, particularly when everything appears to be working as it should.

But waiting until you notice slow drainage, unpleasant smells or an overflowing system isn’t the best way to manage it.

Regular emptying helps prevent excessive sludge building up within the tank. It also gives you an opportunity to identify potential problems before they become more disruptive.

How often your tank needs emptying will depend on the size of the tank, the number of people using it and how much wastewater your property produces.

A little forward planning can help keep everything running as it should. 👍

Ever wondered what happens to your wastewater after we empty your tank? 🚛

For many customers, the tanker arrives, the tank is emptied and that’s the last they see of it. But that’s only the beginning of the process.

Once collected, the wastewater is transported to an appropriate treatment facility where it can be processed and treated.

At our own treatment plant here in Suffolk, incoming loads are carefully recorded and managed before going through the treatment process.

It’s all part of making sure wastewater is handled properly from collection through to treatment.

So, the next time you see one of our Binder tankers out and about, there’s a whole process happening behind the scenes to deal with that waste responsibly.

A big congratulations to Thomas Seeley! 👏🚛

Thomas joined Binder in March 2025 and has recently successfully completed his Class 2 training.

He’ll now be joining our fleet of tanker drivers as a fully qualified Class 2 tanker driver, putting his new qualification into practice out on the road.

We’re really pleased to see Thomas progressing within the business and taking this next step in his career with Binder.
