Recently, I uploaded onto LinkedIn a post replying to an AI automated article on 'How do you reward top administrative talent?'

The AI wrote:

"Provide career development opportunities

Another way to reward top administrative talent is to help them grow and advance in their careers. This means providing them with opportunities to learn new skills, take on more challenging projects, and assume leadership roles. You can also support their professional development by sponsoring their training, certification, or education programs, or by creating a mentorship or coaching program that connects them with senior or expert colleagues."

I responded:

I agree career development is crucial to keep administrative staff to advance their careers in the company.

Too often, administrators are seen to just keep the office functioning, which is a shorted-sighted approach.

Training and being mentored is required, providing the same opportunities to the administrator as they do for the rest of the workforce.

Administrative staff needs to see there can be progression for them within the company."

To my surprise 150 individuals have 'liked' my response. The majority of them are administrators from around the globe.

I'm wondering what resonated with them?

Could it have been "administrators are seen to just keep the office functioning" or perhaps "Training and being mentored is required, providing the same opportunities to the administrator as they do for the rest of the workforce."

These two situations I have personally experienced. The way to move on as an administrator/secretary to continue with a career development, was to leave the company.

Well, for the last few months I have been busy supporting family, so I have been a little quiet on my page.

I have still been busy helping a 98 year old pull together his autobiography. The things he remembers is remarkable and the famous people he has met when he was acting in the local amateur dramatics and writing
plays for TV.

I have also completed a book on family history for a person in Malta. Both sides of his family are local and had made their mark on the town, with many local people remembering their businesses and worked for them.

This was an interesting project as the families were local to me so I can relate to the area I was writing about.

I'm now on with the next book.

It's Neurodiversity week 13 - 19th March

We're proud to be supporting Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2023!

is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences.

Together, let's change the narrative to understand, accept, and celebrate neurodiversity!

With an estimated 1 in 7 people diagnosed with a neurodiverse condition such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, chances are you know or work with someone who is neurodivergent.

With many conditions, there is a scale and while many neurotypical people can relate to one or two of the symptoms common, for neurodiverse people the symptoms can cause disruption to everyday life or happen more often.

Because of these challenges many neurodiverse people can struggle to get the chance to show off their strengths - they are no less intelligent or capable, it's just they need to work a little differently or may require a little more support.

Neurodivergent thinkers have great skills in creativity, problem solving, attention to detail, absorbing information, innovation, and honesty.

So this week take the time to challenge the stereotypes and misconceptions and recognise the talent and advantages that come from being neurodivergent.

It has been an interesting few months.

One of my clients has been writing his autobiography. He's 97 years young and thought he would put his memoirs down in print. Such a fascinating life in advertising, local amateur dramatics, meeting famous people.

I have been doing research for another client on his grandparents and that book is now with the printers.

The printers specialise in family history books and I cannot wait to see how they have produced this book. Hopefully this will be with us any day soon.

I'm about halfway through researching my clients family third book after pulling a lot of information together.

And I think there will be a fourth book where it will include the early deaths and a murder. This murder dates back to the 1930's and was made into a short televised programme looking at the circumstances and a book about the murder is produced too. All fascinating stuff!

It's a coincidence this week that I write a blog post on helping business owners who have Dyslexia.

From personal experience, two people, one with Dyslexia (because they've been tested) and the other who the school says has "Dyslexia Traits", are so different in their attitudes, and we find out now that we have to pay for tests.

Dyslexia does not just affect the child in reading and writing, but it's the whole concept of understanding the class subject.

While one child is not afraid to ask, the other gets disinterested in schoolwork and becomes frustrated and angry as there is no support there.

Unfortunately, the school sees this differently and believes that it is the child's fault for not conforming to their rules.

And unfortunately, it is left with the family to sort something out as the school just do not understand Dyslexia.

It is difficult when the right support is not there for you.

I have recently carried out some work for some who is Dyslexic, and I thought I would write a short blog post.

Do you think your dyslexia is holding you back in your business? How does it affect you? This is a problem for many people, they prefer to communicate by 'phone. Do you plan your tasks to achieve your goals?

For working on my own business, I plan out in my diary/organiser what I need to achieve that week.

I block out my time so I can work on the task, for both myself and my clients' work.

I choose a subject I want to concentrate on during that blocked time, this prevents procrastination. I know what I need to accomplish during the allocated time I have allowed myself.

Drop a comment on what method you have chosen to plan out your tasks to achieve your goals.
