Here's a question worth asking today: when was your fire alarm last tested?

We still walk into places where the alarm's been sat on the wall for years and nobody's pressed the button. It looks fine. Then the day it's actually needed, the battery's flat or a detector's failed, and by then it's too late to find out.

A weekly test takes a couple of minutes. A proper service once a year keeps it reliable and keeps you on the right side of the rules.

If yours is overdue, or you're not sure, give us a call on 01282 861111 and we'll get it serviced.

Quick one that catches a lot of offices out. Plugging one extension lead into another, then loading it up with the kettle, a couple of heaters and everyone's phone chargers. It's an easy way to overheat a socket, and it's behind more workplace fires than people think.

Rule of thumb: one extension lead per socket, and never run high-power stuff like heaters off a lead.

Worth a two-minute walk round the office to check. If you'd rather have someone come and give the place a proper look over, give us a ring on 01282 861111 and we'll sort a fire risk assessment.

Here's one that catches people out. Having a fire alarm isn't the same as having a working fire alarm.

If you're responsible for a building, the law expects your alarms to be tested and maintained, not just fitted and forgotten. We still turn up to places where the last recorded test was years ago, or nobody can find the logbook at all.

It only takes one dead battery or a faulty panel and the whole system is useless at the exact moment it needs to work.

If you can't remember the last time yours was properly serviced, that's your sign. Call us on 01282 861111 and we'll get your alarms tested and your paperwork back in order.

Take a look under your desk right now. If you've got an extension lead plugged into another extension lead, with a heater or a kettle on the end of it, that's how a lot of workplace fires start.

Overloaded sockets are one of the most common causes we see. It's easy to forget how much a chunky appliance pulls. One too many and the lead overheats.

Quick check today: don't daisy-chain extension leads, and keep the high-power stuff like heaters, kettles and microwaves plugged straight into the wall.

If you're not sure your workplace is up to scratch, give us a ring on 01282 861111 and we'll sort you a fire risk assessment.

When was the last time someone actually pressed the test button on your fire alarm? Not looked at it. Pressed it.

We turn up to plenty of workplaces where the alarm's been on the wall for years and nobody's quite sure it still works. A weekly test takes about a minute. If yours has been sitting there untouched, that minute is worth it.

Same goes for your fire exits. It's easy for a delivery, a few boxes or a broken chair to end up parked in front of one without anyone noticing. Have a walk round and check nothing's blocking the way out.

If you'd rather someone came and checked it all properly, that's what we do. Call us on 01282 861111 to book a fire risk assessment or get your alarms serviced.

Something we see more often than you'd think. A fire exit propped open with a box of stock sat in front of it. Or an alarm that's been on the wall for years and nobody can remember the last time it was tested.

Both are easy to sort, and both matter. A blocked exit is no use to anyone when it counts. And an alarm only helps if it actually goes off when it needs to.

If it's been a while since your alarms were serviced, or you're just not sure where you stand, we can help. Call us on 01282 861111 to book a service or a fire risk assessment.

Quick one that catches a lot of workplaces out. Those little four-way extension leads under desks. Someone plugs in a heater, then a kettle, then a few chargers, and before long the whole thing is warm to the touch. That's how fires start.

Simple rule: never run a high-power appliance like a heater or a kettle off an extension lead. Straight into the wall socket every time. And if a plug or socket ever feels hot, stop using it and get it checked.

Not sure your workplace is up to scratch? We can do a proper fire risk assessment and walk through it with you. Give us a ring on 01282 861111.

Have a walk to your fire exit right now. Is there a stack of boxes in front of it? A delivery someone left by the door? It happens more than you'd think, usually with good intentions and nobody meaning any harm.

Trouble is, a blocked exit in a real fire costs seconds you haven't got. Keep the route clear and the door easy to open, every day, not just when an inspection is due.

Want a fresh pair of eyes on your premises? Book a fire risk assessment on 01282 861111.

Here's one we come across more than we'd like. A business has fire alarms fitted, everyone assumes they work, but no one can remember the last time they were actually tested. Then the day you need them, they don't go off.

A fire alarm is only any use if it's maintained. Regular testing and servicing is what keeps it doing its job.

If you can't remember your last alarm service, that's probably your answer. Call us on 01282 861111 and we'll get it booked in.
