Pokémon Illustrator Showcase: Yuka Morii

Known for her distinctive clay models, Yuka Morii has been illustrating Pokémon cards since the late 1990s.

Rather than traditional drawings, she hand-sculpts Pokémon from clay and photographs them in real-world settings, giving her cards a unique, almost nostalgic feel.

Her artwork has become instantly recognisable among collectors and bridges the gap between art and pokemon really well, some Morii cards sell for a lot of money.

Let us know your favourite Yuka Morii card!

Storm Emeralda has been out in Japan since July, and with Delta Reign approaching, we thought it was worth checking in on the singles market.

Mega Rayquaza ex is still the big one, but there's plenty of artwork here that won't cost you an arm and a leg.

Do you reckon the English release will have much impact on Japanese prices?

CARD OF THE WEEK: Snorlax (1998)

Not your average Snorlax card!

This Japanese promo features artwork by Keita Takahashi, one of the winners of the CoroCoro Pokémon Illustration Contest back in 1998.

The hand-drawn, crayon-style artwork is a big part of what makes this card so special, and a great example of how different some of the early Japanese promos were.

SET OF THE WEEK: XY Ancient Origins

Released in August 2015, Ancient Origins was the seventh main set of the XY era, with 98 cards plus 2 secret rares.

The set introduced Ancient Traits and is best known for cards like M Rayquaza EX, Primal Groudon EX, Primal Kyogre EX and Lugia EX.

Still one of the better-looking sets from the XY era, in my opinion.

30th Celebration singles are still falling 📉

Generous pull rates and a huge amount of product hitting the market have brought prices down hard since release, with some of the biggest chase cards losing the majority of their early value.

Good news if you’re collecting though… some of these are becoming a lot more affordable

Are you buying now, or waiting for them to drop further?
