This is one of those lots that makes cataloguing days an absolute joy. On the outside it’s a plain black portfolio. Inside, page after page of beautifully painted watercolours of Gothic church interiors: patterned walls, arches, scripts, architectural elements, an organ case, stained glass windows and much more.

Whoever made these was clearly very talented. If you love architecture, church history or would love to do your own research on these wondeful paintings, then this is the lot for you!

We did try to leave a bit of walking space this time. We failed 😅

The auction is packed to the rafters again, with wonderful things fresh from house clearances and estates. Fine furniture, paintings, china, collectables, toys, tools, and plenty of the delightfully unexpected. Each piece has a story, and they are all ready for their next home.

As always, around 95% of lots are sold without reserve, so whether you are a seasoned collector or just fancy a bargain, you have every chance.

Come and have a rummage on viewing day, Thursday the 15th of October, with the sale on Friday the 16th of October. Bid in the room, or live online at auctions.whittakerandbiggs.co.uk or easyliveauction.com, whichever suits you 🔨

Any questions, give us a ring on 01260 279858, we would be happy to help.

In our next auction we have something special, one owner from new, with less than 10,000 miles on the clock!

It's a 2020 Honda Jazz e:HEV hybrid in a smart grey finish. It is an automatic with a light two-tone interior, alloy wheels, parking sensors, heated seats, a large touchscreen with DAB and smartphone connection and much more!

The Jazz has a loyal following for good reason. It is easy to park and cheap to run, and the back seats are cleverly roomy. Perfect for a first car, a town car, or a sensible swap.

Estimate £8000 - £12000. Viewing is on Thursday the 15th of October, and you can bid in the room or live online on our website or easyliveauction.com on the 16th of October, start time 9:30am. Any questions, give us a call on 01260 279858, as always we would be happy to help!

This is one of JB's favourite items to come through the doors at Congleton Auction in a long time, and it is easy to see why.

This is a 19th century Victorian Gothic Revival brass lectern. An eagle with spread wings sits on a globe, above a very typical ecclesiastical base. A lectern like this would have held the Bible in church, with the eagle's wings carrying the Word. It stands nearly as tall as JB and weighs an absolute tonne, so whoever buys it, please bring a friend for collection, or be extra nice to one of the porters!

Estimate £1,000 to £2,000, and JB thinks that is a bargain. It goes under the hammer on Friday the 16th of October . Come and see it in person at viewing on Thursday the 15th (9am - 5pm), or bid live on our webiste, or through Easylive. Any questions, call us on 01260 279858, we'd be more than happy to help 😊

It is not every day you get to share a brew with Nigel Havers, and when you do, what do you talk about? For JB and Nigel the answer was easy: lighting!

It turns out they are both firm fans of a good lamp, and a long chat followed about everything from grand French chandeliers to the clever little Anglepoise that has sat on desks for nearly a century.

Lighting is one of those categories that can really surprise people at auction. Names to look out for include:

💡 French chandeliers, especially gilt bronze and crystal pieces, Baccarat and Maison Baguès
💡 Italian design such as the Flos Arco by the Castiglioni brothers, the Artemide Tizio by Richard Sapper, the Oluce Atollo by Vico Magistretti, and pieces by Fontana Arte or Gino Sarfatti for Arteluce
💡 Murano glass from Venini and Barovier & Toso
💡 Scandinavian classics like the Poul Henningsen PH5 for Louis Poulsen
💡 Original Anglepoise lamps by George Carwardine for Herbert Terry & Sons, the early 1227 especially
💡 Art Nouveau glass lamps by Daum, Gallé and Tiffany Studios

If you have a lamp or light fitting you have always wondered about, bring it along to Congleton Auction for JB and the team to take a look. You can also call the office on 01260 279858, email [email protected], or WhatsApp a photo to 07802 426915 (valuations only). Who knows, you might have something Nigel would be interested in! 😉
