My mother in law gave me this book, Hold Still, curated by HRH The Duchess of Cambridge and the National Portrait Gallery, a few weeks ago and I’ve only just had a chance to look through it…a very emotional read! It also brought back a lot of memories from the last couple of years that I had almost forgotten. Thank you x

I’m having a complete fangirl moment because the actual liked my last photo of the book, Untamed! So, I thought it only fair to tell you how much I also loved Elizabeth’s book, How to Fail, which resonated with me in so many ways, and which I also wish had been around when I was younger! Btw, if you don’t already listen to How to Fail with Elizabeth Day, I highly recommend it x

p.s. Apologies that this isn’t a photo of my actual copy - I appear to have lent it to a friend, although I have no idea which one, so let me know if it’s you! x

Reading this book was one of the highlights of my summer. I was a bit sceptical at first, but after hearing on How To Fail podcast I knew I had to give it a go, and I absolutely loved it - so much I read it twice! is so wise and offers up so many incredible life lessons. I only wish it had been around when I was younger! X

I’ve been working from the kitchen table during lockdown so that I can help the kids with their homeschooling more easily. This has its downsides, mainly to do with the noise and general chaos, and the fact that I miss shutting myself away in my own space, but the silver lining is definitely these views from my kitchen windows! x

I thought I’d do a series of helpful grammar examples, the first one being Analogy. Still to come are Oxymoron, Juxtaposition, Simile, Idiom, Hyperbole and Euphemism...I’m not sure I learnt any of these at school! x

Following on from yesterday, I thought I’d post my children’s current reading lists. Like many adults, and I’m sure other children, they tend to go through phases of reading loads, and then not showing much interest, or wanting to read non-fiction as opposed to fiction books/magazines. My son has always loved reading, and his favourite books up until quite recently have been the Harry Potter series, but he also loves comics and reads loads of my husband’s old Beano and Dandy annuals. My daughter has not always been so keen on reading, and it has been more challenging finding books that she likes, but she enjoys reading to herself now that she is bit older, and is quite varied in what she chooses. I have both my mother-in-law and my mum to thank for many of the above, as they always seem to be much more up to date on the latest releases in children’s books than me! x
