It’s with great sadness that I have decided to close Recycling in Finham.
Yet another recycling scheme has closed - the Warburton’s bread bags - so there is very little left to collect which cannot be recycled at supermarkets with the rest of our soft plastics.
However, I think we can be very proud of ourselves - over the past seven years we have recycled over 1 ton of waste with Terracycle, plus ink cartridges and pens elsewhere.
Since we began, the world has changed as far as recycling goes. Big businesses are expected to do their bit (whether you agree with their methods) with supermarkets now taking soft plastics. Other businesses are changing the materials they use to be more environmentally sustainable. I like to think we have all been a small cog in a bigger machine which has pushed for more responsibility.
I would like to thank each and every one of you who has supported my little venture. Not only have you been instrumental in forcing change and keeping so much out of the household waste bins, but you have also raised around £1500 which has been distributed to local voluntary groups!
I would especially like to thank Eve, my cheerful willing volunteer who spent many Saturday mornings helping me sort the recycling out. You were a godsend and I enjoyed spending time with you and seeing you grow in confidence. I wish you all the very best as you move forward with your life plans.
Best wishes to you all.
