The strongest paint innovations begin in the formulation.

For paint and coating manufacturers, product differentiation is built through decisions made before application: the chemistry, the system, the end-use requirements and the value the final product needs to deliver.

BioCote® additives can be incorporated into suitable paint and coating systems during manufacture, including water-based, solvent-based, liquid and oil-based paint systems.

The technology can be explored across industrial and decorative coatings, specialist coatings, inks, lacquers and varnishes, subject to the specific material system, manufacturing process and intended application.

💧 Performance starts with evidence.

This World Water Monitoring Day, we’re highlighting the value of robust, independent third-party testing when evaluating materials used across water storage and dispensing systems.

PEELS is BioCote®’s testing approach built around a five-organism panel relevant to these environments: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Legionella pneumophila and Salmonella enteritidis.

Under ISO 22196 test conditions, independently tested BioCote®-treated materials demonstrated reductions of up to 99.99% against the PEELS panel, compared with untreated controls after 24 hours.

For manufacturers of tanks, pipework, fittings, dispensers and other water-system components, PEELS provides measurable performance data to support material selection, product development and validation.

For World Patient Safety Day, we’re highlighting our partnership with Eakin Healthcare and the integration of BioCote® antimicrobial technology into the NeoFlow® VT neonatal ventilator circuit.

Eakin Respiratory, the respiratory therapy area of Eakin Healthcare, specialises in the development and manufacture of respiratory consumables for neonatal, perioperative and critical care applications.

Built into key NeoFlow® VT components during manufacture, BioCote® technology provides continuous antimicrobial product protection, helping to protect the treated material from the negative effects of microorganisms such as bacteria and mould.

The collaboration demonstrates how antimicrobial technology can be considered at the product development stage to add lasting functionality and value to medical device design.

The right antimicrobial solution starts with the right questions❓

Before selecting an additive technology, manufacturers should consider more than the final product. The material, manufacturing process, intended application and product proposition all shape what is possible.

At BioCote®, we take a consultative approach, working with manufacturers and product innovators to understand the technical and commercial requirements behind each project.

Whether you are developing a coating, polymer, textile, paint or finished product, starting the conversation early can help identify the right route forward.

Another instalment in our Manufacturing & Materials Series: Polymer Compounding.

Antimicrobial protection can begin at the material stage.

BioCote® antimicrobial additives can be incorporated into polymer materials during manufacture, with solutions available in formats such as concentrated powders and masterbatch pellets to suit different polymer processing requirements.

By introducing the technology during compounding, manufacturers can create a treated polymer ready for subsequent processes such as extrusion or moulding, providing antimicrobial protection as an integral part of the finished material.

The correct additive and formulation will depend on the polymer, manufacturing conditions and intended application, which is why technical compatibility and finished-product validation are key parts of the development process.

When it comes to food-contact applications, confidence needs to be built on more than product claims.

BioCote® is the world’s first HACCP International certified antimicrobial additive supplier. This independent certification recognises that BioCote® quality-control procedures have been rigorously assessed and that its technology is fit for purpose and safe for manufacture into suitable food-contact surfaces.

For manufacturers of food-service equipment, food-contact components and products used in food environments, this provides an additional level of assurance when exploring antimicrobial technology as part of product development.

From material selection to final application, BioCote® works with manufacturers to help build added value into suitable products from the start.

Ideas are made to be shared, and in classrooms, whiteboards and notice systems are central to everyday learning.

Our latest Partner Spotlight features Bi-Office, an established manufacturer of visual communication products for education and workplace environments.

The Bi-Office antimicrobial collection includes whiteboards, cork notice boards, magnetic erasers and magnets incorporating BioCote® antimicrobial technology. On the Antimicrobial Magnetic Whiteboard, antimicrobial properties are incorporated into the dry-wipe surface, white lacquered aluminium frame and tray.

This incorporated technology helps inhibit microbial growth on protected product surfaces, providing an additional performance feature for frequently used shared spaces.

For education suppliers, estates teams and specifiers, the BioCote® and Bi-Office partnership demonstrates how antimicrobial technology can be integrated into practical products used throughout learning environments.

BioCote® technology complements normal cleaning practices and does not replace them.

Protection that goes beyond the coat.

BioCote® antimicrobial additives can be manufactured directly into paints, coatings, inks and lacquers, becoming an integral part of the applied finish rather than an aftercare treatment.

From water-based and solvent-based systems to liquid, oil and powder coatings, our additives are formulated around the coating type, substrate, manufacturing process and intended end use.

The result is built-in antimicrobial protection designed to help reduce the negative effects of microbial build-up, including staining, unpleasant odours and premature material degradation.

Long-term performance is equally important. Following simulated ageing equivalent to 50 years, BioCote®-treated paint was tested using a modified ISO 22196:2011 method and demonstrated up to a 99.98% reduction in microbial growth compared with untreated paint. The findings show how antimicrobial technology can continue to support the cleanliness and integrity of painted surfaces over time.

Suitable for a wide range of applications, including walls, woodwork, doors, furniture, lighting, handles and switches,

BioCote® works with manufacturers to develop coatings that add lasting value to finished products.

Manmade materials are engineered for performance, from activewear and technical textiles to medical curtains and nitrile gloves.

PET/polyester, PA/nylon and PP/polypropylene are widely used across textile applications, while NBR/nitrile rubber is used in products such as disposable gloves. Each material presents different manufacturing conditions and product requirements.

BioCote® antimicrobial additives can be incorporated into suitable synthetic fibres and materials during manufacture or, where appropriate, applied as a finishing treatment.

When incorporated into an appropriately tested and validated finished product, BioCote® technology helps to reduce microbes that can contribute to unpleasant odours, staining and microbial-induced material degradation.

There is no one-size-fits-all formulation. The appropriate additive and treatment method are selected according to the material, manufacturing process and intended end use.
