As you can imagine with the weather getting wetter and cooler here in North Wales, the forest is changing too! Here is just a few of some of the most beautiful, and strangest mushrooms and fungus we have been seeing around the woodland! Do any mushroom/ fungus enthusiasts know what they are? The first one is definitely the most intriguing 🧐

220 willow cuttings and rods have arrived at Green Dragon Forest from the very knowledgeable Shirley at World of Willow. 😁

We've got willows to give winter colour, encourage pollinators and provide beautiful catkins, some are extra curly, contorted and visually unusual while some will grow to be coppiced providing fuel, a selection will be suitable for ornamental, floristry and weaving and some are already 2 metres and 3 metres and will be used to create a test living structure.

Obviously willows will like our wet woodland but hopefully they will also help control some of the wetter areas.🤞

625 trees have arrived from the fantastic British Hardwood Tree Nursery. Yippee 😁
Hawthorn and Blackthorn for security hedges and the stunning Black Poplar!

"Imposing, elegant, rare. The black poplar was once a staple of Britain’s landscape but these days, the trees are few and far between.

A declining species in the UK, it is rare and grows in isolation, growing best in boggy conditions. Only around 7,000 wild black poplars now grow in Britain and of these, only 600 are female trees.

Black poplar is the food plant for the caterpillars of many moths. The catkins provide an early source of pollen and nectar for bees and other insects, and the seeds are eaten by birds."
