A few months ago, I got a message from an old veteran, Gary Metcalf.

An old Kingo, former Army boxer and 64 years old.

He turned up to one of our Saturday sessions and got stuck straight in, sparring, hitting the bags, and completing the circuit alongside the lads.

What brought us together wasn’t age, it was our shared values.

Courage. Discipline. Respect. Integrity. Loyalty. Selfless commitment.

I was just sent this picture by a veteran.

It’s my brother and a very, very good friend of mine, together in Iraq around 20 years ago.

Two young men, chasing dreams, serving their country and fearless in their approach.

Looking at this picture now, it makes you realise just how quickly time passes and how precious life is.

We must always remember those who have fellen, and never forget the sacrifices made by those who served and those who continue to serve.

But we should also appreciate the friendships, the brotherhood and the memories that come from those experiences.

Appreciation, gratitude and respect.

EFT Foundation is supporting our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

A fantastic visit to EFT this morning, catching up with Jordan, Group Director, Jennie, Social Value Executive, and Dan, Director of the Electrical Department.

We’re hugely thankful for their continued backing of Lion Culture and what we’re trying to achieve.

EFT have very generously offered to pay for all the food for our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on 13 Sep, supporting 35 people taking on the challenge and five support staff helping us throughout the day.

EFT are a local business supporting local people, with a team and structure that allows them to give something back alongside the services they provide.
A massive thank you to Jordan, Jennie, Dan and the wider EFT team for getting behind us.

LION’S ROAR PODCAST 🎙️ | JOHN EDGE

Today I had the privilege of sitting down with someone I’ve got to know well over the last few years, John Edge.

John’s journey hasn’t been straightforward.

From boxing and competing at a high level in combat sports, to getting caught up in the nightlife scene and going through some genuinely difficult periods in his life.

But what makes John’s story powerful is what he’s chosen to do with those experiences.

Today, he runs Halewood Boxing Club, Cinetico Fitness, supports, Box2Change and, most importantly, gives his time to young people who need guidance, structure and someone positive to look up to.

One part of our conversation really stuck with me. John spoke openly about the importance of having a father figure, someone who is present, sets an example and shows you the right path.

That’s exactly what John is now doing for others.

He’s taken some of the hardest parts of his own journey and turned them into something that helps other people.

A heartfelt conversation. A relatable story. And a great example of giving back.

Experience is valuable. But it can also make us complacent.

The more experienced we become, the easier it is to say:

"I've seen this before."
"I've done this before."
"I know how this ends."

And that's when we can stop asking questions.

Good leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about staying inquisitive, listening to others and being willing to challenge what we've always done.

Experience should give us better judgement, not a closed mind.

Ask more. Listen more. Learn more.

That's how we find better solutions and ultimately, better outcomes.

Today marks a huge milestone for us at Lion Culture. We're incredibly proud to have officially qualified 24 members of the management team at Duni Poppies in Leadership and Management.

But this was always about more than a qualification. Together, we've developed the skills that great leaders need every day, communicating effectively, managing change, dealing with conflict, building strong networks, understanding themselves, recognising their own strengths and areas for development, and leading people with confidence.

Too many organisations promote great employees into management roles without giving them the training and support they need to succeed. We believe leadership isn't something you simply inherit, it's something you learn, practise, and continually develop.

A huge thank you to everyone at Duni Poppies for trusting us to be part of your journey. We look forward to continuing our partnership throughout the year, supporting and developing your teams as your business continues to grow.

Today marks significant milestone for Lion Culture Initiative CIC.

I'm incredibly proud to welcome Norma to the team as our Director of Partnerships and Strategic Growth.

For me, this appointment is about far more than bringing another director on board. It's a reflection of the belief people have in what we're building. Experienced, respected professionals don't commit their time, reputation and expertise unless they believe in the vision, the values and the impact.

Norma brings over 30 years of experience across Social Services, the NHS, the hospice sector and the charity world. She has helped countless charities, CICs and social enterprises become stronger, more sustainable and create greater opportunities for the communities they serve.

What impressed me most wasn't just Norma's experience, it was her values. Her passion for creating lasting social change and improving life chances aligns perfectly with everything we stand for.
