Getting the noise out, I call it. 💥 It can get very noisy in my head and this style of journaling gets the noise out.
When the noise is out, I feel lighter. I find I can think more clearly, breathe deeper and make decisions quicker and with conviction.
It’s a tool I recommend to each of my coaching clients. Some love it, others not so much. And that’s ok. Use what works for you, I say.
I’ve tried a few different versions of journalling over the years and this is the one that works best for me, for a number of reasons.
1. It looks like it feels in my head. Messy, unedited, uncomprehensible.
2. It flows uninterrupted - like a ribbon of words from my brain and out my pen.
3. It can’t be re-read. It’s not meant to be, the process of writing it out untangles it as it comes. And once it’s out, I’ve heard it and let it go.
4. It saves paper, pleasing my inner eco warrior.
How…
Write to the end of the page and then quarter turn and keep going. Three turns of the page completes the process for me (keep going if you wish).
Invariably by the time I’ve done my three turns, or four pages, the noise of the day is out and my brain is offering up nuggets of wisdom and clarity instead. I capture these diamonds of clarity on a new page, to spark me into action.
The daily promise I make to myself is twofold:
📢 let the noise out
💎 act on the diamonds
My version of journalling has been inspired by Morning Pages (The Artists Way) and unconscious writing Journalling (One of many). This is my take on it.
If you journal, I’d love to hear what works for you?
