💜 It’s Carers Week 💜
This week is all about recognising unpaid carers – the husbands, wives, partners, sons, daughters, family members, friends and neighbours who quietly do so much every single day.
A lot of caring happens behind closed doors and often goes unnoticed by others.
It can look like:
❤ Checking medication has been taken
❤ Making sure someone has eaten and had enough to drink
❤ Organising appointments and keeping track of paperwork
❤ Helping with shopping and collecting prescriptions
❤ Changing bedding or assisting with personal care
❤ Popping in “just for five minutes” to check everything is okay
❤ Supporting someone who is unsteady on their feet
❤ Worrying about them throughout the day and during the night
❤ Trying to balance work, family life and your own wellbeing around someone else’s needs
For many people, caring starts with something small.
Maybe it’s helping with the shopping, giving lifts to appointments or popping round to help with a few jobs.
Then gradually, without really noticing, the responsibility grows.
You start preparing meals, managing medications, helping with personal care, organising appointments and checking in several times a day.
Before long, caring becomes a huge part of your life – but you may never think of yourself as a carer. You’re simply looking after someone you love.
And often, when someone asks how you’re doing, the answer is:
“I’m fine. I’m managing.”
But caring for someone doesn’t mean you have to do everything alone.
As an self employed carer, I often work alongside families, helping to ease some of the day-to-day pressures by providing support such as:
⭐ Medication prompting
⭐ Personal care
⭐ Meal preparation
⭐ Companionship visits
⭐ Shopping and errands
⭐ Respite visits to give family carers a break
⭐ Support after a hospital stay
⭐ Regular check-ins for reassurance
This Carers Week, I want every unpaid carer to know:
💜 What you do matters.
💜 The support you provide is invaluable.
💜 It’s okay to ask for help.
💜 You deserve support too.
Professional care doesn’t replace family care.
It supports it.
You are not alone. 💜
