Accountancy Practice The Balancer Expands into Derby with New Base at Oberoi Business Hub
Nic Cooper, founder of The Balancer Ltd, has taken office space at Oberoi Business Hub on Pride Park as he looks to strengthen his presence in Derby and support an increasing number of clients in the area.
Having spent more than 25 years working in finance across a wide range of sectors, including senior roles as a Finance Director, Nic launched The Balancer to provide a more personal and accessible service to business owners.
Nic Cooper said:
“I’d spent over 25 years in finance and had seen just about everything. I wanted more flexibility and a better quality of life, so I started my own business. Initially, I focused on helping organisations save costs, delivering finance training and consultancy services. However, the more small businesses I worked with, the more I was asked to help with their accounts because they weren’t getting the support they needed from their existing accountants. That’s how The Balancer accountancy practice was born.”
Today, The Balancer supports a growing portfolio of limited companies, providing annual accounts, corporation tax services, self-assessment tax returns, payroll and VAT support. Nic is supported by his part-time assistant, Ginny, and prides himself on helping business owners navigate both financial and operational challenges.
What began as a business designed to create a better work-life balance has evolved into a thriving practice with a loyal and expanding client base.
With an established office in Uttoxeter, Nic identified Derby as a key growth area and selected Oberoi Business Hub as the ideal location to support his future ambitions.

“My Derby client base is growing and I wanted a professional, accessible location where I could meet clients and continue building the business in the area. I already had business connections based at Oberoi Business Hub, so it was the obvious choice. The office gives me a fantastic platform to strengthen relationships, meet prospective clients and support the next phase of growth for The Balancer.”
