Wired or wireless intruder alarm for your commercial premises? The right choice depends on your building and how it’s used.

β†’ Wired systems can be a strong fit for new builds, major refurbishments or premises where cable routes are practical. They avoid sensor batteries but installation may involve more work to run cables.

β†’ Wireless systems can reduce installation disruption and suit occupied buildings or locations where cabling is difficult. Signal strength and battery maintenance need to be considered as part of the design.

Both can provide dependable protection and remote management when properly specified, installed and maintained. The best solution is the one designed around your premises, risks and day-to-day operations.

JKE Fire & Security supports businesses across the East Midlands and surrounding areas with clear advice and ongoing aftercare.

An off-the-shelf security kit may look convenient, but it cannot understand how your building operates or where its real risks sit.

A properly designed solution starts with the property, its people and its day-to-day activity. That means considering how:

β†’ Intruder alarms protect key areas and entry points
β†’ CCTV provides useful coverage and evidential-quality footage
β†’ Access control manages who can enter and when
β†’ Fire safety systems support early warning and occupant safety

The result is a joined-up, practical system, not equipment simply fitted to a checklist. It also means one expert team, one point of contact and dependable support after installation.

At JKE Fire & Security, we design, install and support solutions for commercial premises across the East Midlands and surrounding areas. Everything is figure-out-able when the right questions are asked first.

What happens when your CCTV or alarm is triggered after hours?

A recording-only system stores footage. It may help you investigate an incident later, but it does not actively assess what is happening while your premises are empty.

A monitored, verified system adds a professional response:
β†’ An alert is received by the monitoring team.
β†’ The event is assessed using CCTV and system information.
β†’ Genuine activity is verified before an agreed response begins.
β†’ Keyholders and, where appropriate, emergency services can be contacted promptly.

For business owners and facilities managers, this can reduce the time an intruder or other incident goes unnoticed: helping protect people, property, stock and operations.

Across the East Midlands and surrounding areas, professional monitoring provides peace of mind that someone is watching when your site is closed.

An intruder alarm can be switched on every day and still need proper servicing.

Over time, motion detectors can collect dust, cobwebs and other contamination. Changes to the room, decorating work, furniture or environmental conditions can also affect how they perform.

Left unchecked, this may lead to:
β†’ False alarms and unnecessary disruption
β†’ Reduced detection performance
β†’ Unnoticed faults or low batteries
β†’ A system that does not respond as expected when it matters

A proper service visit includes cleaning detection devices, checking their condition and positioning, testing each zone, reviewing signals at the control panel, checking batteries and tamper protection, and recording any faults or recommendations.

It is the detail behind the scenes that helps keep an alarm system dependable for businesses and facilities across the East Midlands and surrounding areas.

The clocks go back on 25 October 2026, bringing darker evenings earlier. A few simple checks can help reduce opportunities for after-dark theft at home or on your premises across the East Midlands and surrounding areas.

β†’ Check exterior lighting covers entrances, paths and vulnerable areas.
β†’ Make sure your intruder alarm is working and its external bell box is clearly visible.
β†’ Consider CCTV with AI human detection to help identify relevant activity.
β†’ Review access control on doors and other entry points.
β†’ Check your monitored out-of-hours response arrangements are up to date.

Every site is different. We’re happy to offer practical advice on what’s right for yours, without overcomplicating it.

The amended Approved Document B came into force on 30 September 2026. For property developers, estates teams and facilities managers, it is a timely reminder: fire alarm and life safety design should be considered at drawing stage, not left until handover.

The updated guidance includes changes to evacuation design and clearer guidance on stair provision for taller residential buildings. Transitional arrangements may still apply to older applications, so each project should be reviewed on its own merits.

Bringing fire safety expertise into the design process helps to:
β†’ Coordinate detection, alarm and life safety systems with the building layout
β†’ Identify design issues before they become costly changes on site
β†’ Support practical compliance and clear documentation
β†’ Deliver a system that is reliable, maintainable and straightforward to operate

For projects across the East Midlands and surrounding areas, early collaboration can provide greater clarity, smoother delivery and peace of mind.

Buying security systems one at a time can create an expensive problem: an alarm from one company, cameras from another and fire safety from a third, with equipment that does not communicate and no single point of accountability.

A properly designed integrated solution brings everything together:

β†’ Intruder alarm
β†’ CCTV, including Wisenet solutions where appropriate
β†’ Access control and emergency door release
β†’ Fire detection and life safety systems

The benefits are practical:

β†’ One expert team designing the solution around your building and risks
β†’ Systems that work together rather than operate in isolation
β†’ One point of contact for servicing, faults and support
β†’ One clear record of your system, maintenance and compliance

For businesses across the East Midlands and surrounding areas, getting the design right from the start can make security simpler to manage and provide greater peace of mind.

How long does your CCTV footage actually last?

It may be less time than you think. And once footage has been overwritten, it cannot help when an incident needs reviewing.

Your retention period depends on:
β†’ Hard drive or cloud storage capacity
β†’ Number of cameras recording
β†’ Image quality and resolution
β†’ Frame rate
β†’ Continuous recording or motion-based recording
β†’ Compression settings, such as H.265

Adding more cameras without reviewing storage can quietly reduce the number of days you can search back. A system may appear to be recording normally, while important footage from a few weeks ago has already disappeared.

Good CCTV planning starts with the outcome you need. Do you require 14, 30 or more days of usable footage? Which cameras need continuous recording? How quickly must footage be located and exported?

Across the East Midlands and surrounding areas, JKE Fire & Security designs CCTV systems around real operational needs, not simply by adding cameras and hoping the storage is enough. We plan capacity properly, explain the options clearly and help ensure your system delivers peace of mind when it matters.
