Bamfords Auctioneers & Valuers

Bamfords Auctioneers & Valuers Rising as a phoenix out of the ashes of Neales of Derby its core team have worked together for over 20 years.

Headed by one of the country's most recognised antiques faces, James Lewis, Bamfords is a family run business and since its formation in 2002 has grown in size and reputation. Based in the heart of the UK, with great road and rail links, Bamfords has rapidly overtaken competitors and grown into the position it is in today, one of Britain's great auction houses. Bamfords enjoy a comfortable positio

n being the parent company to Neales of Nottingham, est. 1840, Richardson and Linnell, est. 1899 and Noel Wheatcroft. Bamfords employs over 30 members of staff, including auctioneers and world renowned specialists. The Bamfords team is not limited to the UK, links with firms in North America, Africa and Asia gives us a reach far beyond our location. Based in two very different Derbyshire locations our salerooms offer one thing in common, a great service and a fun antiques buying or selling experience. Our Derby auction house is only three turns from London, set alongside the A52, it offers three salerooms, nine departments and a coffee shop, all under one roof. Our Rowsley saleroom just outside Bakewell in the Peak District National Park is thought to be the only auction house located in an out of town shopping centre, with over 750 car parking spaces, on-site restaurant and shops, buying and selling at auction has never been easier or more pleasurable.

Imagine walking into a working forge that could so easily be the setting from a Dickensian interior. Step back in time with Bamfords Auctioneers & Valuers this Wednesday, 18th March, as they present a remarkable collection steeped in history—the contents of P. G. Evans Blacksmith’s Workshop, Bakewell.

This unique clearance offers collectors, craftspeople, and lovers of local heritage an extraordinary opportunity to own genuine pieces of Derbyshire’s rural past.

As the first 50 lots of the auction, the workshop’s contents include the heart and soul of the trade: the blacksmith’s anvil, a wide variety of traditional hand tools, and the many effects that furnished a working forge.

Each item tells a story—of master craftsmanship, community, and a way of life that shaped the local countryside for generations.

Whether you’re drawn by the romance of traditional metalwork or the durability of timeworn tools, this sale captures the spirit of a craft rarely seen today.

Bamfords invites enthusiasts and newcomers alike to attend, bid, and take part in this celebration of a lifetime of skill and of course, local heritage. Join us at Bamford on Tuesday 17th March to view the upcoming auction, sale commencing 10.30am on Wednesday, 18th March. Be among the first to view and bid on this evocative collection—where history’s hammer still rings true.
