Returning to the office after the festive break in 2025, the outlook for raising funds from grant-making trusts, foundations and the lottery felt bleak, to say the least.

As we marked 30 years of Felton Fundraising, celebration didn’t feel entirely appropriate against a backdrop of grant makers spending out, closing, restructuring or pausing funding altogether. Fast forward to August 2025 and we were well below the income levels we had become accustomed to in previous years — levels that had often exceeded £1 million in grant income by that point for the charities we support.

September came and went with little change. However, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Felton Fundraising team, there were plenty of irons in the fire and reasons to remain hopeful. Then, as we entered October, momentum began to build. Suddenly we were edging closer to £2 million — and as I write this, we will finish the year having raised more than £2.7 million.

Not bad for a relatively small fundraising consultancy based in Norfolk.

As we return to the office after this festive break, I want to recognise the significant efforts of our team. The results truly speak for themselves. Looking ahead to 2026 I remain confident in our ability to continue giving 110% to the charities we work with.

Finally, Sarah and I hope that our team, our charity clients, and our colleagues across the sector had a very happy Christmas and we wish you a healthy, successful New Year.

Richard Felton

💡 Fundraising reality check:

Grant funding has always been a lifeline, but right now it’s more unpredictable than ever. Trusts & foundations are facing huge pressure, making tough choices, and often having to say no far more than they’d like.

As fundraisers, we need to:

👉 Keep perspective – this once-reliable income stream can’t meet every need anymore
👉 Diversify – multiple income streams are the future
👉 Be mindful – apply only where you truly fit the criteria & lower your expectations

It’s raining 🌧 - if your charity has good levels of reserves, now is the rainy day you have been saving them for.

At Felton Fundraising, we bring 30 years’ experience in ‘Hands on’ fundraising & training. We can’t promise guarantees, but we can promise honesty, expertise, and walking beside you every step of the way.

Get in touch if you’d like fresh perspective, practical support, or experienced fundraising partners who’ve stood the test of time.
