CIS Contractor?
Getting a Mortgage Could Be Easier Than You Think
If you work in construction and are paid through the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), you may think that being a contractor automatically makes getting a mortgage more difficult.
That isn't necessarily the case.
A number of mortgage lenders understand how CIS contractors are paid and have specific ways of assessing their income. Depending on your circumstances, this can mean your mortgage options may be better than you initially expected.
At Miles Rhodes Mortgages, we can help you understand how lenders may view your CIS income and find a mortgage that suits your individual circumstances.
We can help with:
🏡 Understanding your borrowing potential based on your CIS income
🔍 Searching across a wide range of mortgage lenders and their different CIS criteria
📋 Finding a suitable mortgage based on your circumstances, rather than assuming a standard employed or self-employed approach
💬 Straightforward, personalised advice from your initial enquiry through to your mortgage application and beyond
Every CIS contractor's circumstances are different. How long you've been contracting, your income history and the way you're paid can all affect which lenders may be suitable.
So, if you're a CIS contractor thinking about buying a home, moving house or remortgaging, it's worth speaking to us before assuming your options are limited.
You might have more mortgage options than you think.

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.

📈 Why are mortgage rates creeping up when the Bank Rate hasn’t changed?

You may have noticed some UK lenders increasing their fixed mortgage rates recently — and the reason is largely down to swap rates.

Swap rates are a key part of how lenders price fixed-rate mortgages. At the moment, they’ve been pushed higher by rising gilt yields, renewed inflation concerns and uncertainty around where interest rates are heading next. (Reuters)

The Bank of England has currently held Bank Rate at 3.75%, but markets are becoming more cautious about further cuts, with inflation and higher energy prices creating fresh concerns. (Bank of England￟)

👉 So what does this mean for you?

It doesn’t necessarily mean mortgage rates will keep rising — swap rates can move quickly in either direction. But if you’re coming off a fixed rate soon, it’s worth looking at your options sooner rather than later.

As always, don’t panic and don’t assume your bank is offering you the best deal. There may still be options available across the wider market.

💬 If you’re due to remortgage or you’re thinking of moving, get in touch and let’s see what’s available for you.

It was great to get the team together at our latest CPD day. There is always something new to learn and some great ideas on how we can help our customers buy their dream homes. Thanks to the guest speakers on the day. This was Kevin's last CPD day before he retires in November. He has been amazing for Miles Rhodes and his customers, he will be sorely missed!
