Join me this Sunday the 13th at 18:00 UK time for an online zoom session.

90 minutes of self love and self enquiry of “the connected breath”

You will need a quiet space and a yoga mat (or if you’re like me, enjoy the pleasure of being on the floor). Many find a blanket and something for the head and under the knees to be helpful.

Nothing needed except curiosity and a willingness to be present.

£15 (free for students and past clients).

Comment below if you’re interested and I will message you.

Really delighted to have spent the first day of three with Matt Hill and members of his community. Diving into Systema breathwork around basics & foundations. Walking! On the floor! Relaxation. Massage. All the things I love to play with. Then linking breath with walking forward and backwards, fast and slow. And “four pillars”: Squat. Sit up. Press up. Leg raise (all the way over shoulders feet to floor behind you).

I’ve loved it. Lots of rich new enquiry and things for me to explore in fine detail. The first half of the day has given me enough stuff to work with for a whole year.

Tech and “embodiment”:

(Not a popular conversation. Far below for a definition of embodiment)

This is one of the subjects that continues to intrigue / fascinate / terrify / amaze me. Specifically, the often unspoken dialogue at the intersection between my two main fields of expertise.

It is a critical conversation, but not one that sparks much interest in either group.

There are exceptions to this, but in general:

My high tech friends and colleagues are either quite dismissive of “body based awareness” unless it’s fitness based (in some cases they can entertain facets they have embraced, like mindfulness) or they don’t really “get it” or relate. Not on a deep level which is where systemic change happens.

My embodiment, nature loving friends who teach deeper mind-body connection, lead retreats and advocate slower and more gentle rhythms are generally repulsed / overwhelmed by the tide of tech that threatens to engulf everything they hold sacred.

Take for example the area of R&D in AI/ML + data science and the practical application of that in real life. Vivienne Ming speaks a lot about this, providing examples of how skewed things get when we have a lack of and inclusion. If your development team are a bunch of middle aged, white male engineers you simply don’t have the intrinsic programming - literally - required to achieve proper representation.

She gives lots of examples of how and where this goes wrong, and what the impacts are. She notes just how much better team and organisational performance is when you have diversity present.

Here are some questions I ponder (in no particular order). What are some of yours? And any thoughts or answers you may have?

1 - What are the good and bad impacts of tech to our own embodiment, health and well-being? To how we parent? To our children? To workplace performance especially around mental health or physical well-being?

2 - What do we need to do as tech leaders and well-being and embodiment practitioners to “stay ahead of the curve” (and do we even need to?). How do we generate change or impact in our organisation?

3 - What are the things we need to “fight” against and how can we do that? What does it look like?

4 - What do we need to embrace and what opportunities are presenting themselves at this intersection? How can we make use of them?

5 - What do people and society at large want and need? What do our customers want and need? What do they think they need? How are these things different? Why do we think we are “right”?

6 - What does a good, well balanced tech & embodiment future look like?

*Embodiment is the study, teaching & practice of deep somatic awareness.

I am a visionary and a strategist first. While I’m able to be excellent at tactical ex*****on, I do get snarled up in details, or in admin. I’ve spent so many years trying to master just starting. Moving forward. The very best thing I’ve found is just to start small and be consistent. Little and often. More than anything this is what delivers results over time. I admire people who are unmoved by the exciting (like me!) and “the next shiny thing”.

The best advice I give to myself on the regular: “Play to your strengths. But focus on a few things that you commit to every day.”

Not easy. Still working on it. But hey. That’s

What is it to be a man? A father? A male leader? What is masculinity?

**Call to action far below, men’s open circle tonight, 7pm UK**

There is so much noise in this area we are losing the fundamentals. We need to get back to basics.

In 2020 during lockdown, I started hosting something I called “circles” for men to get together on zoom, once a week. Sharing. Supporting. Just being heard. Feeling connected. Building community.

The foundations of that work went on to become a thriving hub of facilitators with men meeting weekly.

Now I’m delighted to be partnering with and the cofounder, Mia, on integrating our respective work into a longer term model.

Call to action: If you’re interested in this, or building programs and leadership models that will positively and powerfully impact your business - and society - please get in touch.

If you’re a man and want to join tonight for a 1 hour taster circle, 7-8pm UK time, please get in touch.

We are all fools. And we should all be a bit more fool. Let’s get back to school. Almost thirty years ago I hit the road. I’ve paused here and there. Put down roots a few places. Planted things. Uprooted things. Built and made things. Destroyed and broken and lost things.

I’ve given it my all. Except when I haven’t; when I’ve been broken and beaten down. Haven’t we all?

I am still on the road. More so now than ever in fact. And it’s hard and lonely sometimes. But mostly it is good. I meet incredible people and I’m inspired every day.

One of my back-then-mentors said “never trust a leader without a limp”. A person without scars likely hasn’t really played the game with all their heart; and even if they have they likely don’t have the life experience that comes from the knocks of failure.

The bitter taste of what is worse than failure: letting people down. Or harder. Having to make the hard choices that will let people and their expectations down.

My dear friend is the heart-led leader of the wise fool school and I’m grateful to him for his subtle, but oh so powerful impact on my life. He co-founded a work on embodiment that (not only did he transcend by 10,000, but) transformed my life and uprooted my trajectory.

He is a wise (not-so-old) fool.

Who are your wise fools? Where are you in the journey of getting scars and limps?

Shout out to people that inspire you below. (I’ve tagged a few and missed a few)

Incredible friendships are born from not-so-secret special ingredients. Love and care. Honesty. Vulnerability. Deep self reflection. Acceptance. Deep accountability. Authentic relating. Listening. Self regulation. All the magic sauce that makes life so rich. Deeply grateful for this lot.
