⚠️ Heatwave conditions are set to return, and it’s important to keep our loved ones with dementia well hydrated.

Dehydration is a common challenge for people living with dementia, even in milder weather, so it’s important to take extra caution when temperature soar.

If you have a loved one living with dementia, take note of these ways to support them in the heat:

Leave beakers or jugs of water in easy reach. This is especially important for people with limited mobility, who aren’t able to get up and make themselves a drink.

Make drinking easier. Try a brightly coloured cup or straw to draw attention. Make sure the beaker is within line of sight, and not too heavy or an odd shape.

Share a drink together. Have a cup of tea or a soft drink with the person, and make sure they're drinking during mealtimes.

Leave prompts and reminders. Try leaving notes out for your loved one or putting up notices around the house. You could also set up a phone reminder or set an alarm clock.

Offer high-water content foods. Supplement water and other drinks with foods that are high in fluids. Some good options include soup, cucumber and fruit like melon.

Try offering something that feels like a treat. Ice lollies and ice cream are cooling and have a high water content, while Jelly Drops are 95% water and designed to help you stay hydrated.

📢 Please share so we can keep everyone living with dementia safe and hydrated in the heat.

We’ve been a little quiet on Facebook… but for a lovely reason!💛

It’s been a busy first few months here at Cara’s Befriending & Home Help Services, I’ve been spending my time doing what I love most, supporting lovely people in our local community!

From companionship visits over a cup of tea (or coffee for me!), helping with shopping and errands, preparing meals, organising homes, outings and lots of gardening! It’s been a privilege to support some wonderful people and their families.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me, recommended me, or shared my page your support means so much to me💛

I’m now taking on new clients across the High Peak and parts of Cheshire East, so if you or a loved one could benefit from a little extra support, companionship, or practical help, I’d love to hear from you!💛

We all know life can get busy, noisy, and sometimes unexpectedly lonely, but no one should have to navigate it alone.

I believe companionship isn’t a luxury, it’s something everyone deserves. A genuine conversation, a shared laugh, or simply having someone there can make a real difference to how we feel day to day!

Our befriending and home help services are built around connection, kindness, and understanding. Whether it’s a regular visit, a walk, or just time to talk. Because feeling seen, heard, and valued matters at every stage of life.

If you or someone you care about could use a little extra connection, we’re here. 💛

Hi everyone ☺️

I recently shared about my befriending and home help service and I thought it might help to explain a bit more about who this support can be for.

Sometimes people don’t need formal care, just a friendly face, help getting out of the house, or a bit of extra support day-to-day.

If you think this might help you or someone you know, feel free to message me for a chat or call💛
