No doubt the coffee will be flowing tomorrow more so then usual on a Monday morning 😜

Coffee contains natural sources of antioxidants and useful nutrients including riboflavin (vitamin B-2), niacin (vitamin B-3), magnesium and potassium, there are physical health benefits too.

Speciality coffee is all about the precision…the amount of coffee, the amount of water, the temperature of the water, the extraction time, everything factors into making that brew.

Introducing new routines around how you extract and consume coffee as you begin a new day will naturally invite a calming sense of stillness which focuses the mind and improves mental wellbeing.

Speciality grade arabica coffee is an investment. It’s hard to farm and expensive to cultivate due to the fact that the ideal terrain for its development is set in places that are hard to access, thousands of metres above sea level.

When acquiring our coffee to brew at home, you are not only purchasing a beverage, but you’re also investing in a lifestyle, one which promotes creativity, experimentation and a conscious sense of living in the moment.

This review coming from someone who I have the upmost respect for, not just for what he achieved in his professional career but more so off it. I was fortunate to speak with recently and he spoke openly about his battles with his mental health and how he built a new career in business with

It was a real privilege to hear his story and an inspiration to now follow his new journey and passion, in this regards, we are very similar (minus my footballing ability!)

Following on from our post yesterday, we are BIG into promoting the benefits of mindfulness, in particular, mindful drinking (not alcohol!)

Whether its our coffee, another brands or even a glass of juice, take your time to drink it, be aware of it, its tastes, textures, mouthfeel, don’t rush it, just simply stop whatever else your doing and just be.

My inspiration for the inception of Thorn & Thistle is deep rooted and intertwined with my own ongoing battle with depression and anxiety. In 2016 I reached the darkest period in my life and this triggered a series of events which ultimately led me to where I am today.

I’ve never spoken openly about my mental health and my daily encounters with negative thoughts. Like so many people out there, I’ve chosen to suppress it, bury it deep down out of fear of being judged or ridiculed.

Suppressing that much negativity however is unhealthy and exhausting as it forces you into acting out a charade of a life, forced to play so many outwardly happy and strong-minded characters, depending on what social or professional setting I was in. Having played these roles for so many years, I wasn’t sure who the real me was anymore.

Aside from my close family and friends, two things in particular changed this: coffee and informal mindfulness. The positive effect these had on me were so transformative that I was compelled to create Thorn & Thistle with the sole aim of helping and encouraging people to live a happier, healthier life.

As today starts the beginning of mental health awareness week, I’ll be introducing a subscription service aimed at not only delivering stunning, speciality grade single origin coffee to your door but also improving your mental wellbeing.
