You have 20 minutes to complete a BA case study.

Do not make the mistake of spending all 20 minutes trying to find the perfect solution.

Before you solve anything, ask:

What do I actually know?

What am I assuming?

What evidence is missing?

Who is affected?

What still needs to be clarified?

A Business Analyst case study is not only testing whether you can reach an answer.

It is testing how you think when the information is incomplete and the pressure is on.

Strong BAs do not just solve problems quickly.

They make sure they are solving the right problem first.

Every new urgent request should force a leadership decision.

What does this replace? What happens if it waits? Who owns the trade-off created by changing direction?

If leaders cannot answer those questions, the team is not really being asked to prioritise. They are being asked to absorb more work while still being held accountable for everything that was already agreed.

Good leadership is not simply deciding what matters. It is making clear what matters most, what moves and what will not happen yet.

Your team may not have a focus problem. They may have a leadership prioritisation problem.

On Monday, everyone agrees on the priorities. By Wednesday, several new requests have become urgent, but nothing that was already agreed has been removed. The team is not losing focus because they suddenly became disorganised. They are being asked to carry more priorities at the same time.

Every urgent request should trigger three questions: What does this replace? What happens if it waits? Who owns the trade-off created by changing direction?

If nothing moves when something new becomes urgent, that is not prioritisation. It is simply stacking more work onto the team.

Results like these are why we do the work.

Behind every message is someone who kept going through applications, interviews, uncertainty, rejection and the pressure of trying to build a better career.

Then the messages start coming.

“I got the job.”

“I am moving to the next stage.”

“I secured my first Business Analyst role.”

“I just got my third offer, a Senior BA role.”

These are not just testimonials. They are evidence that the right support, positioning, preparation and consistent ex*****on can change the outcome of a job search.

At TechEdu Solution, we do not simply help people apply for more roles.

We help them identify what is stopping them from getting results, strengthen their positioning, prepare properly for interviews and approach the job market with a clearer strategy.

And sometimes the outcome is not one offer.

It is multiple offers and the ability to choose.

If you are currently applying for Business Analyst roles but struggling to secure interviews or convert interviews into offers, you may not need to work harder.

You may need to fix the part of your job search that is not working.

You opened the BA job advert feeling excited. By the bottom of it, you had convinced yourself you were not qualified.

Before you close another role, separate what you are reading: core BA capability, business context and tools.

Then ask what you can already prove, what you can learn and what is genuinely missing.

Comment “BA” and we will send you the free Business Analyst Career Roadmap.

You finally get your first Business Analyst role.

Then Monday arrives and there is no perfect handover, no neat project brief and nobody telling you which BA technique to use.

That is the part of career switching people do not talk about enough.

A new BA needs more than definitions. You need to know how to enter a messy situation, understand what matters and work out what to investigate first.

Comment “BA” if you want details of TechEdu Solution’s Business Analysis training for career switchers and entry-level BAs.

Trying to become a Business Analyst? Learning every tool people recommend online may be one of the fastest ways to waste months without becoming more job-ready.

One of the questions beginners ask most is, “Which BA tools should I learn?”

Jira, Confluence, Visio, Power BI, SQL and Azure DevOps can all be useful. But knowing how to use software does not automatically mean you know how to operate effectively as a Business Analyst.

Before trying to master every tool, I would focus on the capabilities that are harder to develop.

Can you understand what is really causing a business problem? Can you ask questions that uncover what stakeholders actually need? Can you identify the right people to involve, challenge assumptions constructively, and compare different options while explaining the trade-offs?

That is where the real value of Business Analysis sits.

There is an important difference between knowing how to use a BA tool and knowing how to think through a business problem.

Software can often be learned relatively quickly.

Judgement takes much longer to develop.

So if you are starting your BA career, do not measure your progress by how many tools you have added to your CV. Focus on becoming better at understanding problems, creating clarity and supporting better decisions.

This is Part 2 of our 7-part “If I Started My BA Career Again” series.

If you are trying to break into Business Analysis and feel overwhelmed by everything people say you need to learn, comment “BA” or send us a message with “BA”.
