This is a reminder that we have recently transferred our front counter services from Poole, Bridport, Sherborne and Gillingham to three main locations – Bournemouth, Blandford and Weymouth.

This has enabled us to increase our opportunities to visit the public in the heart of communities. If you need to contact us, you can do so at one of our Mobile Police Stations or at a Community Contact Point, find out when they will be near you here: https://orlo.uk/u9zIL or here: https://orlo.uk/Z3viY

Alternatively, you can fill in a web form on the Dorset Police website or call 101.

📞 Always call 999 if there is a crime in progress or danger to life.

As of today, our front counter services at Poole, Bridport, Sherborne and Gillingham have transferred, and the public can now access three alternative locations: Bournemouth, Blandford and Weymouth. Opening times can be found on the Dorset Police website: https://orlo.uk/SjzyF

Poole, Bridport, Sherborne and Gillingham police stations remain open for operational work by our frontline officers, staff and volunteers.

The changes follow a review, which recognised the public prefer to contact us online and in the heart of neighbourhoods at Community Contact Points and our newly launched Mobile Police Stations.

If you need to contact us, you can do so at one of our Mobile Police stations or at a Community Contact Point. Alternatively, you can fill in a web form on the Dorset Police website or call 101.

• Always call 999 if there is a crime in progress or danger to life.

• In a non-emergency situation, you can call 101 or visit the Dorset Police website to provide information or intelligence: https://orlo.uk/SjzyF

• Find out where your next Community Contact Point by visiting: https://orlo.uk/VOqQu

• To see where the Mobile Police Station is visiting, visit: https://orlo.uk/H15gI

There is a small handful of administration tasks that must be completed at one of the three open stations and two custody suites. This includes producing driving documents in the occasional instances when it has not been possible for officers to do this by the roadside, signing on for bail and firearms/weapons surrenders. The majority of other tasks can be carried out online, at a Community Contact Point or Mobile Police Station.

We are issuing an important message around the dangers and consequences of spiking as the county welcomes hundreds of new university students.

Spiking is an abhorrent crime, which can have a significant impact on victims and severe consequences for perpetrators.

It involves giving someone else drugs or alcohol without their knowledge or permission.

For example:

Drink spiking – adding drugs or alcohol to someone else's drink
Needle spiking – injecting drugs into someone else's body with a needle or auto-injector pen
V**e or cigarette spiking – giving someone drugs in a cigarette or e-cigarette
Food spiking – adding drugs to someone's food

Giving someone more alcohol or drugs than they were expecting and consented to is also spiking.

Rates of spiking in Dorset are low, but there is often a slight increase nationally in reports of spiking during freshers' weeks.

In response, the Force is supporting the national Spiking Intensification Week running from Monday 15 September to Sunday 21 September 2025 – a time when our county will welcome hundreds of new students.

Detective Sergeant Simon Austin, of Dorset Police, said: “Spiking is a cowardly and sinister crime and it is something we take very seriously here at Dorset Police.

“Any form of spiking is illegal and carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Spiking can happen to anyone and is not always linked to sexual offences or assaults and further crimes committed against a spiked person carry their own penalties.

“Whatever the intention, spiking can have a significant and traumatic impact on victims, often leaving them feeling vulnerable and unsafe, but we want to make it clear that victims of spiking are never to blame.

“Anyone who thinks they may have been spiked, perhaps on an evening out, should tell a trusted friend or member of venue staff or security as soon as possible. Victims should also report it to police immediately to give the best chances of capturing evidence. We strongly encourage victims to report it to us online or by calling 101. If anyone is in immediate danger call 999.

“Finally, if you’re planning on going out, be aware of your surroundings and avoid leaving your drinks unattended. Make sure to look out for yourself and your friends.”

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick said: “Spiking is a dangerous and cowardly crime that puts lives at risk. I know Dorset Police takes any incidences very seriously, and I would urge anyone who thinks they might have been spiked to report it as soon as possible.

“Although rates are low in Dorset, it is vital we all stay alert and look out for one another, raising the alarm if suspicious behaviour is seen or experienced.

“Together we can ensure everyone continues to have a safe and enjoyable time while out and about in Dorset.”

Hello....

Hello, can you hear me?

Pocket dial! Easily done, I’m sure we’ve all got a few stories about when we’ve accidentally called someone and possibly embarrassed ourselves in doing so.

We know that mistakes happen, especially when it comes to tech, but would you know what to do if you accidentally called 999?

When someone calls 999 if the operator can’t hear anything or the person calling doesn’t specify which service they need, the phone call gets put through to the police.

Our contact handlers will then try and talk to whoever is on the line and establish what the emergency may be.

If the call is ended, it is our duty to follow up and try to re-gain contact with the caller which can take a considerable amount of time.

So, if you suddenly hear a voice coming from your pocket, and have an uh-oh moment, please don’t worry, just make sure you stay on the line and confirm it was an accident and that you are safe.

It will help us to save time and ensure that our contact handlers are able to swiftly pick up the next incoming call.
