My family have always claimed we're related to him and have a chart to prove it. However, as a Professional Genealogist I have shown we're actually descended from someone called Walter Rawlings with much humbler origins. The family weren't very happy. Myth is more exciting than reality

Found a new occupation amongst the records today - Copse Dealer. This was someone who found buyers for small pieces of woodland, or who sold the wood on it. One advertisement in 1873 was calling for all 'Copse dealers and manufacturers of walking sticks'.
