2024 has seen the 10th anniversary of the death of Peter Underwood, the much respected paranormal researcher and writer.

Today we are still guided by Peter's diligent way of conducting research. We are also privileged to hold a complete collection of his books in high regard in our library, some of which were donated to us by the Underwood family. 🔎

🎃 | Much like the Jack O' Lanterns carved in modern Halloween traditions, Celtic stone heads were believed to act as powerful guardians, warding off evil spirits and protecting homes from supernatural intrusions. These carved stone figures, often featuring solemn, stylised faces, were seen as potent symbols of spiritual defence and are thought to have held a revered place within Celtic culture.

Today, remnants of these ancient stone heads can still be found scattered across Britain. A notable discovery of two stone heads was made in 1969 during land clearing for housing development in Shipton Gorge and donated to the Museum.

One prominent local author and historian, Rodney Legg, devoted himself to collecting and preserving these carved stone heads, donating a significant portion of his collection to the British Museum. This collection, accessible online, offers a unique glimpse into these mysterious artefacts.
