Another evaluation completed this week in Ashford. Although the ground was so dry it was like we had been transported inside the game Minecraft, the surrounding landscape and wildlife really made up for it!

Another evaluation this week, the time near a beautiful Priory and surrounded by a peaceful and beautiful open landscape. Our friend from Isle Heritage CIC is assisting us with undertaking the survey and taking great drone shots! You don’t normally want to see smoke billowing from the machine… but luckily we’ll be ready with a new machine to continue on tomorrow!

Another evaluation done this week, this time in New Romney on the glorious sand geology (although that meant constant sand dust!). We still haven’t found our gold Iron Age chariot… but we did find a Post Medieval ditch and a small undated pit!

Starting off the week with an Evaluation in Whitfield, Dover. Evaluations are used to sample the area for the presence of any archaeology prior to development. Fingers crossed we find a solid gold Iron Age chariot!

Another beautiful day today, but this time on a watching brief near Folkestone, monitoring the groundworks for a swimming pool. Sadly we won’t get to try out the pool when it’s completed 😂 But seeing the neighbours made up for it!

Today was a hot one 🥵 Excavating a few trial trenches to test for the presence of archaeology. We got the feeling that our trenching technique was being heavily judged…! 😆

We’ve recently started back at a site in Faversham, continuing earlier excavation areas which found prehistoric ditches, postholes, pits full of burnt flint and a very unusual large feature… We’re continuing to explore the archaeology in this next stage and, in particular, find out what the large feature is!
