When was your last risk assessment actually reviewed—not just given a new date?

Changing the review date doesn’t make a risk assessment current.

New equipment, different staff, altered layouts, new substances and changes in working methods can all leave a perfectly tidy document describing a workplace that no longer exists.

A useful risk assessment should:

• Reflect how the task is genuinely carried out
• Identify who could be harmed and how
• Include controls people understand and follow
• Lead to action where something needs improving

If you’re unsure whether your assessments still reflect the work, message me with the word RISK.

I’ll help you identify where to start—practical advice, without turning it into a paperwork exercise.

A fire extinguisher is only useful if you can reach it—and know how to use it.

The Fire Safety Stick offers a different approach to tackling a fire in its early stages.

✅ Lightweight and easy to store
✅ Activated with a simple strike action
✅ No heavy cylinder to lift
✅ No pressure gauge or annual servicing
✅ Minimal residue after use
✅ More than 15 years’ shelf life
✅ Suitable for many common fire types and electrical equipment up to 100,000 volts

It is particularly useful for cars, campervans, caravans, boats, workshops, holiday accommodation and around the home.

The Fire Safety Stick does not replace the need to escape or call the fire and rescue service. But when every second matters, having something close at hand and straightforward to operate could make a real difference.

Does your health and safety system disappear when one person is away?

In many smaller businesses, one person becomes responsible for everything:

• Risk assessments
• Training records
• Inspections
• Contractor documents
• Equipment checks
• Outstanding actions

Most of the information is stored in their inbox, spreadsheets—or simply in their head.

That may work until they are busy, absent or leave the business.

A practical health and safety system should give management a clear view of:

✅ What has been completed
✅ What is overdue
✅ Who is responsible
✅ What needs attention next

CSG helps engineering and manufacturing businesses manage this properly, combining competent support with the ICET compliance management system.

It isn’t about producing more paperwork. It is about making sure important actions do not quietly disappear.

Would your health and safety arrangements continue working if the person responsible was away tomorrow?

If the HSE walked into your business tomorrow, what would you show them first?

Most businesses have policies, risk assessments and procedures somewhere. The real question is whether they reflect what people are actually doing today.

A document written three years ago, before new equipment, new staff or a change in working practices, may provide less protection than you think.

If you run a business in Gloucestershire and would like an honest, practical view of where you stand, message me with the word CHECK.

I’ll send you five straightforward questions to help identify where the gaps may be—no jargon and no hard sell.

Five Compliance Myths That Could Be Costing Your Business Thousands
After more than 25 years working with businesses of all sizes, I've noticed something interesting.
The biggest compliance costs rarely come from legislation.
More often than not, they come from myths, assumptions and "the way we've always done it."
