Don’t believe everything you think.

Job hunting is overwhelming.

Your thoughts tell you things you don’t want to hear.

But remember, your thoughts aren’t always the reality.

😔 ‘I’m not good enough.’

😔 ‘No one will hire me.’

😔 ‘I’ve nothing to offer’

😔 ‘They’ll realise I’m not good enough’

These are fake stories, not facts.

Challenge them.

Use evidence to create new stories based on fact.

😊’I’ve achieved X, Y, Z’

😊 ‘I’ve had the following impact…’

😊 ‘I’ve successfully led X, Y, Z’

😊 ‘My career and impacts prove I am good enough and more’

Don’t believe everything you think 🤔

Believe in your skills instead.

What are you telling yourself that isn’t true?

Stop listing duties. Start proving outcomes.

Most senior CVs fail for one simple reason…

👉they read like job descriptions, not impact summaries👈

Hiring managers know you had responsibilities, it’s a given.

What they want to see is what changed because you were there.

So whip out your eraser or get comfy with the delete key and get rid of ‘Responsible for…’

Then prepare to leap out of your comfort zone like me when I see a 🕷️. Seek your outcomes, use measurements in metrics, scope, and time.

For example: ‘Led 40 FTE to deliver a 12‑point uplift in CSAT within 9 months through coaching, process redesign and effective governance.’

That 👆 single bullet has scale, time, performance metric and the how.

It’s as simple as that 😊

Is your CV outcome focused?

TikTok

What do I need to know?

Who do I need to follow who talks about TikTok?

I’ve just branched out.

I’m currently testing it with vids of my horses.

Video documenting my journey with the new horse.

But…I’m thinking whether it will have a benefit for the business.

So hit me with your TikTok nuggets👇

And if you select 'something else', I'd really appreciate a wee comment so I can understand what 'something else' is to you.

A. Knowing what to include
B. Writing about yourself
C. How it should look
D. Something Else

"If CEOs have executive coaches and athletes have performance trainers, why should leaders feel ashamed to have a CV writer?"

Today's post is inspired by a LinkedIn post I saw last week. Written by a Deputy HR Manager no less...calling out people (leaders especially) for outsourcing to CV Writers as if it was something shameful.

Let’s be honest, writing about yourself is hard. Flippin tough.

Even the most accomplished leaders struggle to distill their experience, impact, and vision into a CV. That’s not a weakness. That’s called being human.

🧠 Smart leaders know when to outsource.

You hire experts to manage your finances, fix your car, cut your hair, clean your house. Hiring a CV writer is no different. It's a strategic investment in your personal brand and your future.

💬 It’s not about ‘can’t’, it’s about ‘should you?’

Could you write your own CV? Probably. Maybe. Possibly.

Should you, when your time is better spent leading, networking, connecting? Probably not.

🎯 A professional CV writer helps you:

Clarify your value proposition

Highlight your leadership impact

Position you for the next big opportunity

There’s no shame in seeking support. In fact, in my humble opinion it shows self-awareness, confidence, and a commitment to excellence. In short, it shows strength and awareness of where best to spend your time.

So if you're a leader considering a career move, or just want to be ready when opportunity knocks. partnering with a CV writer might be the smartest move you make this year.

Own your story. Tell it well. And don’t be afraid to get help doing it.

Do you outsource?

Who is the content of your CV & LI profile for?

Truth bomb - it’s not you...

It’s to attract & appeal to potential employers.

It stands to reason then you need to consider what they want to read...

A perfect case in point is your USP. I’ve seen so much advice on this recently that’s well-meaning but slightly flawed.

“Look at what you’re good at”

“What are you known for”

“Pick 3 things you’re proud of”

Not wrong necessarily 👆 but not complete.

Because your USP must relate to the role you want & the outcomes an employer is looking for.

Let’s take a Customer Experience Leader who says their USP is...

“I positively coach teams & get the best out of each person” - this is what their colleagues know them for...& they’re proud of that, they love the people element of the role.

That’s the ‘how’ not the outcome. The potential employer is looking for someone to lead teams, to improve the customer experience & positively impact the bottom line.

“I create high performing teams who consistently exceed satisfaction and revenue targets by delivering an excellent customer experience using positive coaching & performance management”

It’s about the outcome not just how you do it.

What outcome do you bring?

Do you love your job?

If no, let’s chat....bet I can help you get a new one 👍

Anyway I love mine, I love spending time working on client CVs. It’s wonderful be trusted to help someone make the most of their skills & experience...

I’m incredibly busy at the moment with CVs & LinkedIn profiles. Just a flavour of some I’ve got on the go....the variety is refreshing and just goes to show my diversity 😉

😊 Head of Contact Centre

😊 Senior Business Development roles

😊 Project & Programme Managers

😊 Customer Experience Leader

😊 Head of Customer Service (public sector)

I’m now on a three-week lead time so if you’ve been thinking about it get in now before I get any busier....

Let me know below if you’re in a job you love, and tell me what that fab job is 😊👇👇👇👇

“I always feel better, more positive for speaking with you. I need you on a retainer!”

When an email from a client starts like this you know you’re in the right job 😊

My clients are amazing not least because of the transformation they’ve committed to...

And yes getting a CV from me includes a transformation because we’ll start from a blank page.

Then we’ll talk and I’ll get to know you, point out where your strengths are, and encourage you to be proud of your achievements.

If a CV writer doesn’t leave you feeling confident with a CV that makes you go WOW!

Then something’s wrong...

Do you make people feel Wow in your role?

25/04/2025

Do not say sorry...

For not being able to write your own CV.

For finding it difficult write about yourself, it’s hard when you see it in black & white.

For struggling to find the words because it feels arrogant or icky.

For approaching a CV writer as if it’s something to hide.

Do not feel guilty...

For working at a senior level where you’re presenting to C-suite stakeholders but you can’t formulate your CV.

For asking for help from an expert.

A CV isn’t an easy document to write.

Why?

Because it’s about YOU. It’s not an emotionless business plan or performance report.

It’s you, your life, your career - why wouldn’t it be hard 🤷‍♀️

So don’t say sorry, don’t feel guilty, don’t feel like you’re a child hiding under the covers with a torch reading your fave book when you approach a CV writer.

Be proud you’ve had the confidence to ask for help.

Then take that new CV and fly 😊

Happy Friday Folks 😁😁😁

What's on the plans for the weekend?

Is your CV like Zebedee?

Zeb is my eldests first pony.

He’s had a fab career as a child’s pony, he’s taught so many children to ride.

(often by making them eat dirt but that’s a story for another day…)

His age is starting to show…there’s more grey and he doesn’t hold his weight so well.

(He’s not too bad for 35, think 90 in human years!)

But he still has more to give and wants to continue enjoying his life playing with children, you just need to ignore the grey & feed him lots☺️

I have to look past his age and at him…
————————-
Is your CV ageing you?

Are Recruiters/Hiring Managers just seeing your CV and not you?

It happens when your CV shows its age…

And unlike poor Zebedee who can’t hide his grey…you can update your CV.

I see so many CVs that haven’t been properly updated.

You’ve just added your new roles to it.

It’s still in Times New Roman.

It still has your GCSEs, even though you have a degree & 20 years experience.

It still has your first graduate position even though you’re leading a contact centre with 150 seats.

While I can’t change Zebedee’s grey, I can help you change your CV ☺️

When did you last update your CV?

23/04/2025

“First glance of the CV looks amazing.”

Email from a client today.

Made my day ☺️

That’s why I do what I do 👆

Everyone having a good Wednesday?
