Tip of the day from the 1950s. EASY TO USE—After using a tube of liquid glue, insert a drawing-pin instead of an ordinary pin into the top. The flat top of the drawing-pin makes it easier to remove when the glue is to be used again.—Mrs W. Stewart, 51 Cairndhuna Tce., Wick.

Tip of the day from the 1950s. HANDY—I find a wire coat hanger and two spring clothes pegs ideal for hanging up skirts. On wash days, peg socks and hankies to hanger, then peg hanger to the line. It’s easy to take in if it rains.— Mrs McLaren, 19 Northfield Rd., Dunipace, Denny.

Tip of the day from the 1950s. HANDY APRON—Hands have to be wiped so often when working in the kitchen, an apron made from towelling is a wonderful time-saver.—Miss A. Williams, c/o Clubb Roseneath, Lower Rd., Summerhill, near Wrexham.

I rubbed them with a raw potato and left them to dry. Now they take on a brilliant polish.—Mrs Rolston, 20 Upper Canning St., Belfast, wins a pair of towels.

Tip of the day from the 1950s. HOME DYEING—When dyeing an article, place the dye in a cotton bag, then pour hot water over it. This prevents spots on the material—caused by particles of dye which haven’t been properly dissolved.—Mrs Hunter, 42 Erskine Street, Aberdeen.
