Yesterday we exhibited at Discover Work Dundee’s Opportunities Day alongside other employability, education and training providers.

It was our first time exhibiting at an event and it was fantastic to chat to lots of different people about the different avenues of support there are for people in their journey towards employment. It was a great opportunity for us to explain the work we are doing at LearnLing around helping people into and sustain employment through a greater understanding of communication and work styles and how this translates to relationships in the workplace.

We left feeling very thankful to be part of the local employability infrastructure and knowing we are making a positive difference in helping people develop these key skills for life, learning and work.

Someone said to us in a workshop recently: “If this was ten years ago, you guys wouldn’t be here.”

Ten years ago, conversations about emotional intelligence, communication and workplace relationships were far less common.

Today, more organisations recognise that how people communicate and work together has a direct impact on performance, wellbeing and culture.

Having open discussions about ways of working and workplace culture can feel daunting. It means being willing to hear different perspectives, acknowledge where things could improve and create space for honest conversations.

And sometimes the real impact does not happen in the room. It happens weeks later, when you begin to understand why someone communicates the way they do, why they approach their work differently and how their way of working interacts with your own.

Being able to have a fun and engaging team building session, while beginning to understand your own and others’ communication and working styles can help build stronger workplace relationships.

The group recognised how much their workplace had already changed, and that it was now a much better place to work.

That progress did not happen overnight. It started with being willing to have open conversations about their culture and who they want to be as an organisation.

After delivering our first workshop to the leadership and office staff at PROBAT, we were asked to return to deliver an additional 2 workshops to the factory teams 🍫⚙️

It’s fantastic to see an organisation take pride in upskilling all of their people, and is particularly important in what we do as it really helps the whole organisation to have a shared language and really understand one another which helps improve collaboration, communication and innovation💡

Across both factory team sessions there was great involvement, questions, discussions, reflections and our games and activities which all kept the energy in the room fun and positive. We received a rating of 4.1/5 in the first session and a 4.8/5 in the second session, so an overall rating across the 3 sessions of the whole Probat staff as 4.5/5 which we are incredibly delighted at!

Some of the feedback we received which stood out for us:
“I came in not expecting too much and have been pleasantly surprised at what I have taken out of it”
“The course was put across very well and I feel it has helped me realise why I make and act on decisions in my work and home life”
“Very informative and eye opening to some things that I may not have actually realised about myself and others”

Overall people commented on how much they enjoyed learning about themselves and their work colleagues, and the positive difference they believe this will have in their work.

Back to where it all began. 💫

A year ago we delivered our first public LearnLing workshop at the University of Aberdeen Take Off Accelerator. We returned this week to deliver our emotional intelligence and communication workshop a year on, where Fraser facilitated his first LearnLing session with the help of Rebecca. 🚀

It was fantastic to work with a new cohort of entrepreneurs and see them recognise the value of self awareness and understanding different communication styles, not only for understanding themselves better for starting in business, but for building strong relationships and partnerships with others.

Some of the great feedback said it was amazing to see how far we had come in a year. It’s great to reflect on what we’ve done this year, and for what’s possible for everyone in a year. All the best to this year’s students and we can’t wait to see where we all are in a year’s time! 🚀

We were back delivering our emotional intelligence and communication workshop at Montrose Community Trust and this time we delivered our session to the fantastic staff there!

We all had a great time, lots of discussions and reflections and it was a really relaxed and enjoyable day.

It was lovely to be surrounded by a team who really care about what they do and the people who work there and also the many people who they support through their different programmes.

We have just wrapped up our Employability and Workplace Readiness workshops through the Sports Employability Programme at Montrose Community Trust ⚽️🏟️

Across our 4 bespoke workshops and coaching, we have looked at topics such as understanding yourself and others, resilience, growth mindset, communicating confidently, AI and goal setting.

Amongst lots of discussions, games, activities and laughs we discovered more about ourselves and each other - improving understanding, collaboration, resilience and preparing for the workplace.

It has been a privilege to deliver these workshops to this amazing group, run by a fantastic organisation that offers so much to the community, and to see the participants grow in confidence as they take their next steps into employment 🏆

Thanks so much to Chris Platt and the team and all the participants on the programme! We loved being part of your journey!
