Recently I had a client in with Osgood-schlatter disease (OSD) so thought I’d highlight what it is.

OSD is a swelling and irritation of the growth plate at the top of the shin bone. This is a layer of cartilage near the end of the bone where most of the bones growth happens. This means it’s weaker and more at risk of injury than the rest rest of the bone.

Signs and symptoms
OSD typically causes pain and swelling below the kneecap. The pain usually gets worse with running, jumping, going up stairs and walking up hills. Sometimes depending on the severity it can also lead to limping. OSD normally happens in children typically between 9-14 year olds.

What’s Causes OSD?
It happens during the growth spurt. During this the child’s bones and muscles all grow at Different rates. The tendon that connect the shin bone to the knee cap pulls on the growth plate at the top of the shin.

Healthcare providers recommend sports massage therapy to keep the leg muscles strong and flexible reducing the pressure on the tendons around the knee joint.

****Tech Neck***

Sitting at a desk, or scrolling for endless hours on your phone, tablet etc

A very common complaint or area of concern from clients is the neck and shoulder area.

By using a tennis, hockey or cricket ball lean against a wall or lay on the ground, place the ball in the same position as marked by X above. By doing this can de-sensitise the area until you get hands on the treatment 🙌.

DOMS vs Injury

Delayed onset muscle soreness- People tend to suffer DOMS more if they are new to working out or increase the weight they are lifting 🏋️‍♀️. DOMS can be confused with injury if you feel pain before, during or after your workout. This is one sign of an injured muscle.

Sports massage is great way to easy DOMS and will help shorten recovery time.

Do you have DOMS or a possible injury? DM for advice

If you’re like me working from home you will find yourself sitting for longer periods of time than you normally would’ve within the office.

In particular I have been getting questions around lower back, glute pain and have been treating a few clients recently with this issue

This simple stretch is very effective for helping to loosen the problem area… Give it a go and over time you will see the rewards

Preparing for tonights clients - not only players have to prep before a game! I find by preparing in good time for each of my clients it allows me to have a clear mind when performing treatments, as well as allowing time to sanitise in between.

Failure to prepare can lead to injury and also reduces the chances of performing at your best. “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail”

Some people think a sports massage is only beneficial after exercise but this isn’t the case. Pre event massage will help you prepare for the activity you are participating in by increasing blood circulation, flexibility and mentally preparing you to enhance performance. We all know the benefits of massage after events but preparation is key too.

If you would like to book in for a pre/post event massage just reach out.

I can also come to you as I offer a mobile service, so you won’t have to leave the comforts of your own home as long as there is space for the bed😁

Which should I choose?

Sports massage is a targeted approach to treating minor and chronic injuries. I use a wide range of techniques to realign and loosen muscle fibres. Sports massage can also be used to improve posture and also to condition an athlete’s body so that they can perform at their best. That being said you don’t have to be an athlete or a sporting participant to receive a sports massage!! The type of sports massage you would receive will depend on your injury and needs.

Deep tissue massage is a massage technique used to treat musculoskeletal issues. I will apply sustained pressure using slow, deep techniques to target the deeper layers of the muscle and surrounding connective tissues. Not only is this a massage that focuses on relaxation, it is also used to treat muscle pain and stiffness. I would recommend this for individuals suffering from muscle soreness, pain or fatigue.

Deep tissue massage is often administered as a full body massage more so than focusing on one specific area.

Sitting behind a desk all day?

Lower back pain is one of most common areas of the body that I have worked on. Following these strengthening exercises can help reduce pain and also help build up strength in this area.

I know from personal experience over the last two years that working from home I find myself sitting for longer periods of the day behind my desk. This is one of the most common reasons for discomfort in the area.

Getting away from your desk and moving around for a couple of minutes every hour is vital. It allows the body to relax and also to release any tension in those muscles groups from sitting.
