I’m feeling inspired (and a little tired) after two days at CIPD ACE in Manchester.

Particular highlights for me were keynote speeches from Dr Anne Marie Imafidon and Dr Sabrina Cohen-Hatton. Both women highlighted structural inequalities from unique perspectives, emphasising the crucial need to improve our workplaces and wider society.

For those of you I met at the event, my own commitment to creating cultures of equity is what drives my work. I have a particular interest in societal norms and structures that prevent this, which led me to write a children's book to explain the social system of patriarchy. It has recently been listed as one of the "16 Recommended Reads" for 16 Days of Activism and is available in libraries across Fife. You can learn more here: https://linktr.ee/lynne.crawford

A personal highlight was participating in the panel discussion "Things I wish I’d known before becoming an Independent Consultant." It was a pleasure to meet so many current and aspiring consultants and share my experiences. Huge thanks to Susan Hayman, MCIPD and Louise Leage (Assoc CIPD) for the invite.

The main point I want to convey is that being an Independent Consultant is a serious and developmental career move, not merely something to pursue at the end of a career or as a step back.

It was a pleasure to meet so many amazing people.

An interesting article in the Telegraph that reports ‘children as young as six face career limitations due to gender stereotypes’. Exactly what I found when I wrote ‘The Petriarchy’.

Here at Crawford Roberts our vision is to create culture of equity where gender isn’t seen. To achieve this we firstly have to understand the social systems that create it.

The book ends with the quote ‘when we see the invisible, we can do the impossible’ and that is my hope.

Fostering a culture of respect, professionalism, equity and inclusion is a priority here and it starts with everyone.

We explored how to challenge inappropriate behavior and ensure a safe, supportive and productive environment for all.

The Petriarchy Workbook is now available as a free digital download.

This workbook has been designed to help parents and teachers feel confident when talking about patriarchy, processing negative emotions and healthy relationships and can be read alongside 'The Petriarchy'.

This workbook will be available for free until 30th September 2025 to coincide with schools returning from holiday and the UK Government’s recently updated guidance on Relationships, S*x and Health Education (RSHE), which places a greater emphasis on tackling misogyny in schools.
