There's a pattern playing out across local search right now.

Sites that scaled fast with AI-generated content are surging in Google — then dropping hard.

It even has a name: Mount AI.

The spike looks impressive. The fall is brutal. And the businesses behind these sites are left wondering what went wrong.

Here's what went wrong.

Google's systems are sophisticated enough to detect content produced at volume without genuine expertise behind it. The initial surge is real. The correction is just as real — and it tends to be severe.

This matters for local service businesses in Scotland because the temptation is growing. Cheap AI content. Lots of pages. Fast results.
