A very unique commission came our way sometime back to repurpose pews from Holy Trinity Church in Pitlochry.
The brief was to dismantle and sensitively break apart the pitch pine pews and remake them into movable storage cabinets and screens, designed by Willie Watt Willie Watt
A labour intensive period started at the beginning of the year, deconstructing and carefully de-nailing to reclaim all the required timber to construct the new cabinets and screens.
Cutting, planing and sanding up the wood followed, then carefully detailing the shaped contours of the pews onto the screen partition fins.
All the wood was stained back to the colour of the remaining pews in the church, using a mix of General Finishes wood dyes and a Treatex hardwax oil finish.
2 base cabinets have storage cupboards, whilst the other 2 cabinets have a lifting lid made from the seats of the pews, and storage for folding tables - accessed through a door at the side, fashioned from the pew ends.
A final nod to the old pews was by replacing the damaged painted numbers with laser cut discs in the font of the original numbers, courtesy of The Workshop Aberfeldy. All cut from the pitch pine of the pews.
Delivered in August and in place for the next generation.
Holy Trinity Church in Pitlochry is an eco church and congregation. They aim to live and work in a way which protects and heals our planet and has an open door to visit, with a beautiful serenity garden.

It’s been a busy summer at Brodies Timber building staircases, kitchen islands, lots of shelving, and a big project repurposing church pews into storage cabinets and screens!
Pictures to follow, but we are pleased to announce we have fixed a date for our next open day showcasing a range of woodworking demonstrations from woodcarving and turning to pyrography!
Our ever popular vintage tool seller will be back with a range of heirloom tools and collectable gems.

We were delighted to have the perthshire_woodcrafters along for a visit on Saturday morning and show them around our workshops!
I am pleased to say they have agreed to come back and do some wood turning demonstrations at the open day we are planning on Saturday 3rd October.

We were commissioned to make this rather sizeable pair of Sapele gates which are looking very impressive now installed in their new home.
Each gate is double braced and 65mm thick - these stunning hardwood gates fit into an electric opening system, allowing smooth opening and closing of the rebated pair.
The solid sapele frame has vertical lining to show off the beautiful swirling sapele grain which is showing off in the sunshine!
UV Exterior oil will keep them protected for many years to come.
