🍿 We went along to the screening of 'It'll Never Work', the Argyll-made film following fisherman Hans Unkles in Tayvallich as he built the UK's first electric fishing boat.

🐟 Determined not to let the fishing industry lag behind embracing electric power technology, and motivated to do something to reduce his impact on the planet, Hans turned an old, greasy diesel-powered fishing boat into the UK's first solar and electric-powered commercial fishing boat.

🙏 Hans hosted this special screening of his documentary at Studio Cinema - Dunoon, giving the audience further insights into his motivations and the trials and tribulations that went into making his venture commercially viable. What was clear was not only Hans' skill and determination, which made the whole project possible. But also how his peers and community gathered around to help make it happen. From his neighbour Joe Osborn who directed the film, to another neighbour who composed the soundtrack, and fellow fisherman, boatbuilders, friends and family, who shared their expertise, time and encouragement to support him.

'It'll Never Work' is one of several films we added to the Enterprise in Place programme. It was fun 😃 and 🎯games at the POP shop the other week, when we hosted Chiara Fingland of SCVO, Sarah McArthur and Kaska Hampel from Scottish Communities Climate Action Network, Ann Campbell of Dunoon Community Development Trust and POP shop member Steph Connelly.

We got to try out the new 💚climatACTical 💚 game designed around the needs of community-based organisations and rooted in real-life experiences.

Action on climate change for small organisations can feel overwhelming and complicated. The game, which you play as a group, helps break information down and encourages a dialogue between players.

Ideal if you need to develop an environmental policy and don't know where to start, or want to engage your board members in discussions about climate action.

As you can see from the picture, we had a laugh playing it, and it helped start new conversations around our own work in this space.

🚶‍♂️As you walk along Argyll Street to the Cowal Gathering this weekend, take a 👀 look at the old Tartan Wild shop window. We've been working with the Cowal Gathering team to produce a series of heritage posters that use material from their archive.

These posters will be popping up in shop windows around the town to create interest and share information about this area's amazing people and heritage. These posters go along side the What's On Dunoon - Dunoon Forward heritage map, available from shops around the area.

This project is produced by Dunoon Community Development Trust and The POP Shop and is funded by Argyll and Bute Council and Transport Scotland.
