It would appear palaeography commissions are like buses... none for weeks and then four appear in one day! Sadly I had to refuse one as it was beyond my expertise, so if anyone fancies translating a printed 11th-century Latin chant let me know and I will pass on your name to my client.

All about the Alice Thornton project I've been working on!

You may remember that back in 2019 we published news of a remarkable discovery made by Dr Cordelia Beattie from The University of Edinburgh of a lost autobiographical work of Alice Thornton, a British writer during the English Civil War, and the daughter of the Lord Deputy of Ireland.

The work, that had been presumed missing since the late 19th century, was discovered among Durham Cathedral’s archive collections and is now to be edited and digitised for all to enjoy thanks to funding received from Arts and Humanities Research Council - AHRC. You can read the full story here: https://www.durhamcathedral.co.uk/news/university-research-project-receives-funding-to-digitise-alice-thornton-manuscripts-discovered-at-durham-cathedral

Sending a huge congrats to our friends at the University of Edinburgh. We’re thrilled to be a part of this wonderful project.
