Most fire doors look fine… until they’re tested by fire.

The reality?
A small gap, missing seal, or faulty closer can cause a fire door to fail in seconds — allowing smoke and fire to spread rapidly.

🚪 A properly maintained fire door can:
✔ Hold back fire for 30+ minutes
✔ Protect escape routes
✔ Save lives

🚨 Common issues we find:
• Missing intumescent strips & smoke seals
• Gaps over 3–4mm
• Faulty self-closers
• Poor installation or damage

If your fire doors haven’t been inspected recently… it’s a risk not worth taking.

At KRS Fire Safety Solutions Ltd, we make sure your doors do the job they’re designed for.

“Your Fire Safety Plan Starts With a Fire Risk Assessment.”

Every business needs a fire safety plan.

But here’s the truth…

Your fire safety plan doesn’t start with extinguishers.
It doesn’t start with alarms.
It doesn’t start with signage.

It starts with a Fire Risk Assessment.

A professional Fire Risk Assessment:

✔ Identifies your real fire risks
✔ Highlights what you’re legally required to have in place
✔ Protects your staff, customers & reputation
✔ Keeps you compliant under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

Without one, you’re guessing.

At KRS Fire Safety Solutions Ltd, we carry out clear, practical, PAS 79-style Fire Risk Assessments for:

• Offices
• Pubs & Restaurants
• HMOs & Student Lets
• Warehouses
• Shops & Small Businesses

Be compliant.
Be protected.
Be prepared.

“My venue’s only small… I don’t need a fire alarm, do I?”

We hear this a lot at KRS Fire Safety Solutions Ltd.

Just because a business is small doesn’t mean the risk is.

In fact, smaller venues like cafés, play zones, salons, studios and small commercial units often have:

• Storage rooms packed with combustibles
• Electrical equipment running for long periods
• Ceiling voids hiding wiring, ducting and potential faults
• Kitchens or hot equipment
• Members of the public on site

A fire doesn’t care about square footage.

If a fire starts in a storeroom or above a suspended ceiling, it can develop unnoticed. By the time smoke drops into the main area, escape routes may already be compromised.

Early detection is the difference between:
✔ Minor damage and business interruption
❌ Major loss, injury or closure

Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must provide appropriate fire detection and warning. What’s “appropriate” depends on the risk – not the size of the building.

Low risk doesn’t mean no risk.

If you’re unsure whether your current system is suitable, we’re happy to advise.

In HMOs, student accommodation, hotels and other sleeping-risk premises, protected corridors and stairways are critical life-safety routes.

What’s often overlooked is what’s fixed to the walls.

❌ Vinyl wallpaper
❌ Decorative wall panels
❌ Timber slats or fabric finishes
❌ Unrated acoustic panels

If these materials are not fire rated, they can:
• Contribute to rapid flame spread
• Produce excessive smoke
• Compromise the means of escape during a fire

Lithium-ion batteries are commonly present within student accommodation in the form of mobile phones, laptops, tablets, power banks, e-cigarettes (vapes) and similar personal devices. These batteries, when damaged, over-charged, poorly manufactured, or used with incompatible or non-rated charging equipment, present a recognised fire risk due to the potential for thermal runaway, rapid fire development, and the release of dense, toxic smoke.

• Use only manufacturer-approved or suitably rated and tested chargers.
• Avoid the use of damaged, modified, or counterfeit charging equipment.
• Refrain from charging devices unattended or overnight where reasonably practicable.
• Keep charging devices away from combustible materials and soft furnishings.
• Disconnect devices once charging is complete.

This may look ridiculous but it’s more common than you might realise. People don’t seem to realise that a 4 way adapter usually has a limit of 13Amps. Plugging one into another to give you 7 sockets can and probably will overload them, which could cause a fire. At KRS Fire Safety Solutions Ltd, we identify these sorts of risks and more. Your safety is our only concern

04/02/2026

Fire risk assessments aren’t just about ticking a legal box.
They’re about identifying the risks you can’t always see — the things quietly building in the background until it’s too late.

Early detection.
Trained staff.
Correct equipment in the right place.

Those small, often overlooked details can be the difference between minor repairs and total destruction.
Between a fire that’s dealt with in seconds… or one that takes hold unnoticed.

More importantly, it can be the difference between everyone getting out safely — or someone not making it out at all.

A KRS fire risk assessment doesn’t just protect buildings.
It protects lives.

Serving County Durham, Northumberland & North Yorkshire, KRS Fire Safety Solutions provides fire risk assessments, fire door inspections & compliance support. We help you stay compliant, protect your premises & keep people safe.
