Being based close to Glasgow, we are very sensitive to the subject of fires this week with the tragedy that unfolded on Sunday in the city centre and all the small businesses affected, as well as the devastation of the beautiful historic building on Union Street. Let's Recycle have just published an interesting article linked below which is a stark warning of the dramatic increase in fire risk over recent years due to a massive increase in battery operated products and devices. There was a staggering 71% increase in fires within the waste industry in 2023/2024 figures - 1200 reported fires in the waste sector alone! We often find batteries within shredding bags but please remember to dispose of batteries in the correct manner via an accredited battery waste disposal route at all times.
A Guernsey resident was fined £11,500 after accidentally disposing of batteries in household waste.
