An easy way to check!

Have all the people with significant control (PSCs) in your company completed identity verification?

You can check on the Companies House register.

🔍 Search for your company.
👥 Select the People tab.
✅ Check the identity verification status of each person with significant control (PSC).

If a PSC has completed all verification steps, you'll see a green tick.

If they have not completed identity verification, you'll see their due from and due by dates.

There's a few notices coming out about the heat potentially reaching 35 degrees tomorrow 🔥

Try and stay as cool ❄️ as you can, make sure you have lots of water 🫗 and keep in the shade where you can!

National grid are giving advice on what to do during power cuts, it may be they are expecting this to happen, and the advice they have shared is:

- Keep your fridge closed during a power cut
- Don't open your freezer
- Avoid using large appliances during peak
- Close your blinds or curtains during the day
- Charge a power bank in advance
- Check any medication that needs to be kept cool

You need to verify your identity and provide your Companies House personal code for both of these roles separately – once as a director and once as a PSC.

Your identity verification requirements will not be complete until you’ve provided your code for each role you hold. ✅

Check your verification due dates on the Companies House register.

Well it's the first day for the MTD quarterly submissions - emails have been sent so we're on it!

We've had queries on how it all works, so once we've worked through and submitted one we'll let you know as it's a completely brand new system. However some we can answer now:

- Yes, we expect HMRC systems to crash
- Yes, we expect letters to come out incorrectly so all submissions will be referenced
- No, it will not be easier to contact HMRC and we foresee helplines and online chats being even busier
- Yes, we're here for any queries you may have and if any help is needed - and we'll try and answer as best we can

It's going to be a learning curve this month!

Companies House have sent out their latest update.

The measures set out in the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency (ECCT) Act 2023 are being implemented after a pause last year.

The government has decided to proceed with the reforms, including:
- Requiring small companies and micro-entities to file profit and loss accounts, as other companies do
- All companies having to file their accounts at Companies House via commercial software
- other smaller technical amendments

They have said "to help address concerns", they are introducing 2 changes:

- Opt out of profit and loss publication: small and micro-entities will be able to opt out of having their profit and loss accounts published on the public register. (Details of how smaller companies can opt out of publication will be confirmed in due course.)
- Postponed timings: these reforms will now come into effect on 1 April 2028, rather than 1 April 2027. This will give companies additional time to prepare, with one full accounting year plus nine months (a total of 21 months) to get ready.

If you think you're having a bad day........

One of our clients received a late filing penalty from HMRC for their tax return, that we submitted in plenty of time for them.
So, of course we pop onto HMRC online chat to get this sorted for them......
Only to be told by the HMRC adviser that they are only just processing requests received on the 4th August 2025 and that we should expect a reply by the 4th December 2026.

Yes, you read that right, they are only just processing the 4th August, and yet they have sent a late filing notice for 31st January 2026, despite not actually processing that date. AND, they will not reply to this until December.

To top it off, when we stated it was appalling to do this, and challenged the fact the adviser was not going to do anything, the adviser simply left the chat.

Yet another complaint submitted to HMRC!
