🥶 THE COLDER IT GETS, THE HARDER YOUR APPLIANCES WORK! 🥶

Well, folks, the heating’s going on, the jumpers are coming out, and we’re all trying to keep warm without remortgaging the house! 😂

But did you know the colder weather can cause a few headaches for your household appliances too?

💡 THIS WEEK’S WATTSY WISDOM:

🧊 Fridge freezers: If yours is in a cold garage or outbuilding, check the manufacturer’s recommended operating temperatures. Some models don’t like the cold any more than we do!

🧺 Washing machines: If your machine is in an unheated garage, keep an eye out for frozen pipes and hoses during a cold snap. A frozen water supply can mean a machine that won’t fill.

🔥 Tumble dryers: Clean those fluff filters after EVERY load. Better airflow means more efficient drying and less risk of overheating. Nobody wants a laundry-room bonfire! 😳

🍽️ Dishwashers: Give those filters a clean and check the spray arms aren’t blocked. Your plates should come out sparkling, not looking like they’ve just survived a food fight!

And remember, folks… a little TLC now could save you a chilly, expensive surprise later! 😉

🔧 WATTSY’S TOP TIP OF THE WEEK! 🔧

🚿 Washing machine not draining properly?

Before you panic and call the engineer, check the pump filter! 🧐

Coins, hair grips, buttons and all sorts of other treasures can find their way in there and stop your machine draining properly.

⚠️ BUT… put a towel down first! You’ll be amazed how much water can come out. 😂💦

A quick clean of the filter every few months can save you a blocked pump and possibly an unnecessary repair bill.

🔧🔥 A LITTLE BLAST FROM THE PAST! 🔥🔧

Sometimes you get a job that takes you straight back in time… and this little beauty certainly did that! 😍

This late-1970s early 80’s Tricity Fanfare was still doing sterling service for a lovely lady in her 90s, but it had decided it needed a little attention. 😉

So on Friday, DJ Domestics was called in to work a bit of 1970s magic and get her trusty old cooker back up and running. 🔧⚡️

No fancy touchscreens, WiFi or apps… just k***s, switches, heating elements and proper old-school engineering! 😂

A repair job, a happy customer and another little piece of kitchen history saved from the scrapheap. ❤️

WATTSY'S TOP TIPS - Tumble Dryers Edition 👕💨

Your tumble dryer has one simple dream in life: to have good airflow. When it can't breathe, it sulks, takes forever, costs you a fortune, and eventually throws in the towel. Literally.
So, how to keep it happy:
1. Clean the lint filter - EVERY single time.
I know, I know. But that fluffy grey blanket you pull off is money. A blocked filter can add 30% to your drying time and your electric bill. It's also the number one reason I get called out to an overheating dryer. 20 seconds of effort saves you £££.

2. Don't stuff it like a suitcase on holiday.
If you have to slam the door to get it shut, it's too full. Clothes need room to tumble. Half to three-quarters full = faster drying and far less creases. Your iron will thank you.

3. Give it a shake.
Quick shake of each item as it comes out of the washing machine. It stops everything balling up into one giant, damp duvet cover that contains all your socks.
Follow those three and you'll get quicker drying, softer clothes, and a dryer that doesn't sound like it's trying to take off.
