Backup broadband is a bit like having a spare tyre in your car. You hope you never need it, but when you do, you'll be glad it's there.

Business broadband is highly reliable, but no connectivity service can guarantee that unexpected issues will never occur. That's why many organisations have a backup plan in place.

Imagine if your office lost connectivity for an entire morning. Could your team still access cloud applications, answer customer enquiries, process orders or make calls?

Many businesses use a secondary connection, such as 4G/5G broadband, that automatically takes over if their primary service is interrupted. This helps staff continue working with little or no disruption while the main connection is restored.

For many organisations, the cost of downtime can far outweigh the cost of a backup connection. If your internet went down right now, how long could your business comfortably operate without it?

If the answer is โ€˜not longโ€™, it may be time to consider a backup connection. Speak to our team today on 0330 122 0550 or email [email protected] to find out how we can help keep your business connected.

Happy !
Are you running your own servers on site? You might be familiar with the hidden overheads that come with this. Whether it be unexpected maintenance, power concerns, cooling costs, or the nagging worry about what happens if something fails at 2am.

Colocation and Server Hosting exist to take that weight off your shoulders. Instead of managing the physical environment yourself, you house your hardware (or ours) in a purpose-built, fully managed facility and benefit from enterprise-grade infrastructure.

When choosing a provider, look for:
โ€ข Redundant power
โ€ข Strong physical security
โ€ข Reliable, multi-carrier connectivity
โ€ข Transparent pricing

That's exactly what we offer at CloudConnX. Whether you need a single rack or a dedicated suite, we'll find the right fit for your business.

Want to find out more? Drop us an email at [email protected] or call us on 0330 122 0550- weโ€™re always happy to chat.

As more organisations transition to IP Telephony and VoIP ahead of the PSTN Switch Off, many are discovering that voice security is now just as critical as network and data protection. Cyber threats arenโ€™t confined to email, theyโ€™re increasingly targeting phone systems.

Common risks include:
โ€ข Vishing (voice phishing)
โ€ข Toll fraud
โ€ข Malware
โ€ข Call tampering
โ€ข Denial of service attacks
โ€ข Voice over Misconfigured Internet Telephones (VOMIT)

With CloudConnX, you can stay connected while being assured that security is our priority. We understand that security is an essential asset for your business and with the correct security measures in place IP Telephony can provide a significantly more advanced and secure solution than was ever available through the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Private Branch Exchange (PBX).

Backing up your businessโ€™ data is essential, but where your backups are stored is just as important as having them in the first place. Data sovereignty is the concept that data is subject to the laws and regulations in the country in which it is stored.

Why does this matter?
โ€ข Storing backups overseas can expose your data to different legal frameworks, government access, or compliance risks
โ€ข Retrieval speeds may suffer if data is stored far away, impacting business continuity during recovery
โ€ข You may unintentionally breach regulations like GDPR if your data is held in non-compliant regions

What can you do?
โ€ข Choose a backup provider thatโ€™s transparent about data location
โ€ข Prioritise solutions that let you select where your backups are stored
โ€ข Always encrypt backup data, especially across borders

Does your current backup strategy consider data sovereignty? Now is the perfect time to reassess and take control of your data. Here at CloudConnX we offer data backup with a choice of backup locations including UK mainland and on premise.

Considering making the switch to IP Telephony ahead of the PSTN Switch Off, but not quite sure what that looks like or whatโ€™s involved?

Many businesses are currently exploring their options ahead of the switch-off of the traditional landline network next January and looking for ways to future-proof their communications.

Did you know that business broadband isnโ€™t necessarily faster than residential broadband, but there are many other differences that can have a big impact on performance?

Residential connections are often shared with many users, meaning speeds can drop at peak times. Business broadband uses lower contention ratios, giving you more consistent performance.

Business broadband also comes with stronger Service Level Agreements (SLAโ€™s), so if something does go wrong the fix times are faster than residential contracts.

You wonโ€™t see us shouting about every project we deliver, because many of our customers trust us with work thatโ€™s better kept behind closed doors. Protecting their privacy comes first, even when the results are worth celebrating.

Still, thereโ€™s plenty happening behind the scenes. Our latest blog post talks about why some of our biggest achievements are the ones youโ€™ll never see, and why thatโ€™s exactly how it should be. Not every success needs an announcement to be meaningful.

This week's focuses on network segmentation. It might sound technical, but stick with us - the idea behind it is straightforward.

Think about the doors in your office building. If a fire breaks out in one room, the doors contain it. Without them, the whole building goes up in flames. Your network works the same way, except instead of fire, the threat is a cyber attack.

Most businesses run on one big open network, where each device can talk to every other device. Guest Wi-Fi, internal systems, printers, CCTV, even the finance system, are often all found on the same big network. If an attacker gets into one, they can move across all of them.

Segmentation puts โ€˜doorsโ€™ between those zones.

With segmentation, your guest Wi-Fi, staff devices, servers and more each sit within their own section of the network. If a breach does occur it stays in that one area and canโ€™t spread across the entire network, limiting the damage.

Most businesses we speak to haven't thought about this until something goes wrong. The good news is it's not as complex to set up as people assume, and the protection it gives you is significant.

If you'd like us to take a look at your current network setup, give us a call on 0330 122 0550 or drop us an email at [email protected] -we're happy to help.

Youโ€™ve likely been using a PBX for years without knowing it, but what is a PBX?

PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange. Your PBX manages your internal phone calls, routing calls between staff, handling your phone extensions and essentially connecting your business to the outside world. Each time that you dial an extension to reach a collegue, your PBX is the reason why your call connects.

Traditionally, a PBX was a physical box that often sat in a comms room or cupboard somewhere. They were often quite a big piece of kit and expensive to buy and maintain as you needed someone who knew what they were doing to make any changes to it.

Today, PBX technology has changed quite a bit and businesses have more options.

Many businesses today make use of Hosted PBX, as part of a cloud phone system. Instead of a box on your premises, the system runs in the cloud and your calls are delivered over your Internet connection.

Some businesses opt to keep their PBX on-premise. On-premise PBX gives you full control over your setup and call data, and for larger organisations with high call volumes it can work out more cost-effective in the long run.

You could also opt to have your PBX hosted by a company like CloudConnX. You keep the control and familiarity of your own system, without the hardware sitting on your premises or the overhead of managing it yourself. It's a good middle ground, particularly for businesses that know what they want but don't want the hassle of running it in-house.

Whichever option suits you, the PSTN switch-off in January 2027 makes now a good time to review what you've got. Not sure where to start? Give us a call on 0330 122 0550 or drop us an email at [email protected] - we'll help you figure out what makes sense for your business.

You may have heard SIP trunking mentioned in discussions around the PSTN Switch Off, but what is it?

SIP stands for โ€˜Session Initiation Protocolโ€™. Itโ€™s the technology that enables your existing phone system (or PBX) to make and receive calls over your broadband connection instead of a traditional copper line (ISDN line).

In the context of the PSTN Switch Off, SIP Trunking can replace your old ISDN line. Think of your old ISDN line like a physical pipe that carries a fixed number of phone calls. SIP trunking replaces that pipe with an Internet connection, delivering calls digitally and flexibly. SIP trunking works with most modern PBX systems, meaning you often donโ€™t have to replace your entire telephony system. You can also keep your existing phone numbers.

With the switch off scheduled for January 2027, businesses still on ISDN lines need to plan now on how they are going to migrate their telephony systems. Moving to SIP is simpler than most people expect, and you can also benefit from cost savings.

Not sure where to start? Our team can help by assessing your current set up and handling the migration from start to finish for you. Give us a call on 0330 122 0550 or email us at [email protected]
