Most doctors rely on word of mouth to build their Private Practice.

This is admirable, and it means that you are doing a good job and your patients are happy.

…but you should not rely on this for several reasons.

• It is not predictable

• It is not controllable

• It is not scalable

• And it is not transferable, when you retire.

If you want to have a Private Practice that is sustainable and is worth something when you retire,

…you cannot rely on word of mouth.

By all means, encourage word of mouth recommendation.

But you need The P.E.C.A.N. Approach.

We all spend many years working in the NHS before even thinking about starting our own Private Practice. When starting a Private Practice, we think that it is just the same as the NHS but for patients who are insured or can afford to pay, which of course is true.

But when running a Private Practice, there is a lot more that we could (and should) consider because we have a lot more control.

Control over:
• How you and your practice are perceived and positioned within the marketplace
• Handling of enquiries
• Appointment reminders – quality, quantity and content
• Information given before and after consultations and procedures
• Frequency and duration of clinic appointments
• Support and guidance offered around a procedure
• Long-term follow up and support given to patients

From a clinical point of view (what you actually do to treat the patient), your Private Practice may be just the same as the NHS

…but in terms of the overall service that you offer, it is completely different (if you want it to be).

Growing your private practice is quite different to actually working in your private practice.

We are all pretty comfortable with the working in your practice side of things as we have spent many years training to be a doctor and perfecting our craft.
..but when it comes to attracting and engaging with patients, we have not really been taught how to do this.

It all feels a bit alien and as a result, we don't do it and focus on the doctor side of things.

Over the past 10 years of having my own clinic and being in full-time private practice, I have enjoyed the other side of things and am always looking for new ways to engage with patients and grow my practice.

I have found WhatsApp to be a great tool and I did a webinar about it a few months ago.

I talked about 5 ways to incorporate WhatsApp in to your practice, one of which was to put a button on your website that patients could go straight to message you on WhatsApp.

I had a few people tell me this was a good idea, yet when I went to look at their website a few months later, there is no button.

I realise that one of the problems is that it can be daunting knowing where to start in an area that is quite far from our normal day job that we have been trained to do.

I know how to do it, and it is quite simple.
..but if you don't know, I can imagine you may be paralysed in to inaction.

I have a solution and I will demonstrate step-by-step how to get a little button in the corner of your website with a link to your WhatsApp.
