🎉 17yrs on the 17th 🎉 … time to celebrate that I did it!!!

Today is 17 years since Dickson Lewis was incorporated as a company and I look back at the journey and smile.

Why did I make the bold move to start my business when I had a 10 month old daughter and 3 year old son and no other income…? Fear!

It wasn’t because I had a brilliant idea or thought I’d be an overnight success (although I did hope that!). It was fear of not doing it; not having the flex I would need to work around my family; not being in control of my career at a time in 2008 when companies were downsizing; not being able to deliver what a company would expect of me because I had a young family…. and so on!

The one thing I have learnt over the 17 years is fear can drive you forward or hold you back…and we all have it!

Fear of failure.
Fear of success.
Fear of wasting time, or running out of time.
Fear of being seen.
Fear of being invisible.

Dickson Lewis has come a long way from its original set up as an accountancy recruitment specialist agency…with new tools and methodologies our Leadership & Career Development Programmes have never been so effective… particularly when it comes to managing fear!

I have never been so grateful for the fear I had 17yrs ago.

So at this stage in the road I can look back and smile and say...

“I ran my race. I built my life… and I did it my way.”

As I reflect on the last day of 2024, I realise I have not spent as much time posting this year. Perhaps this is a reflection on just how busy and engaging things have been professionally this year so I thought I would take a few moments to share some of my personal highlights.

Through my work with Hercules and their partnership with Ford Motor Company, I took on the role of Global Project Lead for a programme delivering DEI workshops in South Africa, Canada and the US. This was both challenging and inspirational. We had an incredible cohort of super talented coaches whose support and flexibility could not have been more appreciated. The Ford global team and their dealerships were a joy to get to know and work with and I look forward to more collaborations going forward.

I was also excited to co-lead a new, six-month programme for a cohort of exceptional leaders at Swiss Re. They led the way in collaboration, accountability and action learning and it was inspiring to meet and work with this group of talented leaders.

Coaching Executive Leaders continues to be a privilege and a passion for me. This year I have worked closely with local UK businesses as well as internationally. I am thankful for the trust they have in me and ‘showing up’ with openness, vulnerability and curiosity to make personal shifts. 💥

Career Development programmes have also proved incredibly successful this year. Outcome’s have seen career changes, new business start-up’s and some very impressive career progressions. The number of clients staying on with me for bi-monthly 1:1 check-in’s to stay sharp and focussed is a testament to their drive and commitment.🚀

I have continued to invest time with several local Charities. These organisations make a tangible difference in our world and their drive and belief in their cause and their people keeps it real. The work you do is amazing and truly inspirational. 🙏

In terms of my own growth and personal development this year, I am currently working towards an accreditation on “Imposter Syndrome” and am looking forward to delivering this transformational and ground-breaking model in 2025. 👩‍🎓 👏

Thank-you 2024 - you have been another busy and interesting year providing many opportunities and stretching challenges, all of which I am very grateful for.

I am very much looking forward to 2025 and all that it has in store and just want to take a moment to wish all my connections the very best for the year ahead. Stay curious, remain flexible and above all…enjoy. 😉 🚀

Forth Children's Theatre is a cause very close to Dickson Lewis, not only as Pauline is chair of the organisation but because it provides a warm, welcoming and supportive space for all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
