The Q2 State of Trade shows that trading activity across the plumbing and heating profession remains ๐’๐ญ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž, but businesses are facing increasing financial and operational pressure.

Trading conditions softened during Q2, with 38% of firms reporting quieter-than-expected activity, while weaker forward order books point to growing uncertainty over future workloads.

Cost pressures also remain widespread, with 96% of firms reporting increased material and product costs and more than half seeing profit margins decline. Meanwhile, skills shortages and low appetite for recruitment continue to constrain future growth.

Despite these pressures, confidence in the profession improved during the quarter, with 39% of businesses now confident or very confident about its prospects.

Overall, the profession remains active and resilient, but the evidence is moving closer to the boundary between ๐’๐ญ๐š๐›๐ฅ๐ž and ๐–๐ž๐š๐ค.

A massive thank you to Vaillant UK for hosting the SNIPEF All Staff Day yesterday at their facility in Motherwell.

It was a fantastic day of team building for SNIPEF employees, giving colleagues the opportunity to spend time together outside of the usual working environment.

It was also a pleasure to visit one of our valued affiliates and tour the site, learning more about Vaillantโ€™s work, the training they provide and the products and solutions they deliver for the plumbing and heating industry.

A particular thank you to Graeme Heron and John Cassells for hosting us throughout the day and making the visit both informative and engaging.
